All Pokemon Tool Cards Reclassified, D Cards Rotating Out, New Marnie Promo!
Starting on January 20th in Japan, all new and existing Pokemon Tool cards will no longer be considered Item cards. They will now simply be their own “Tool” subcategory. This means a Trainer card now has four subcategories: Items (blue), Supporters (orange), Stadiums (green), and Tools (purple).
This means if you use [card name=”Mew” set=”Celebrations” no=”11″ c=”name”][/card]’s Mysterious Tail Ability, you can’t retrieve a Tool like [card name=”Rocky Helmet” set=”Vivid Voltage” no=”159″ c=”name”][/card] because it’s no longer considered an Item card. If you use [card name=”Vikavolt V” set=”Darkness Ablaze” no=”60″ c=”name”][/card]’s Paralyzing Bolt (or any form of Item lock), Tool cards won’t be affected. If a card can find a Trainer card, you’d still be able to retrieve a Tool.
It’s likely the same ruling will come to America when our Scarlet & Violet set releases on March 31st.
Starting January 20th, all “D” cards will be rotated out of Japan’s Standard format. This is the same day the Scarlet ex & Violet ex sets release, which will introduce “G” legality cards.
A new alternate art version of [card name=”Marnie” set=”Champion’s Path” no=”56″ c=”name”][/card] will be given to players who participate in Japan’s “Extra Battle Day” tournaments. They will be held at certain stores starting December 16th under the Expanded format. Players will also get a promo pack containing Expanded cards like [card name=”Dedenne-GX” set=”Unbroken Bonds” no=”57″ c=”name”][/card], [card name=”VS Seeker” set=”Phantom Forces” no=”109″ c=”name”][/card], and [card name=”Computer Search” set=”Boundaries Crossed” no=”137″ c=”name”][/card].
