Astral Radiance is the tenth Sword & Shield set. It released on May 27th, 2022.
The set feature 286 cards, including 189 cards in the main set, 27 secret rares, and 30 Trainer Gallery cards.
It promotes the game Legends: Arceus and the Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia.
Overview #
This is the second set to promote the Legends: Arceus video game, which released four months earlier. It introduces various Hisuian Pokemon to the TCG, such as Hisuian Lilligant and Electrode. Many of the cards showcase landmarks from the Hisui region. Whereas the first set promoted Arceus, this set promotes the Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia as well as the Starter Pokemon.

The Radiant Pokemon mechanic was introduced in this set. They are Shiny Pokemon with powerful attacks. Only one Radiant Pokemon can be included in a deck. The cards feature the special texture associated with secret rares. They also have a unique reverse holo sheen. The Japanese pattern is slightly different.

Pokemon VMAX return to the TCG in this set. Many fans assumed the mechanic retired when the TCG moved to Hisui. It did not appear for a few sets.

Astral Radiance is a combination of seven Japanese sets. It mostly sources its cards from April 2022’s Time Gazer & Space Juggler and February 2022’s Battle Region. Over 60 cards were cut from the Japanese sets due to their sheer size. Many of the cut cards will release in the next English set, Lost Origin.
This is the second set to include a Trainer Gallery. Many of the cards from Japan’s VMAX Climax set.
