Contest March 2023 CaC: Synergy: Stage 2 (All Results Up!)

We gave this some further consideration after looking at the card pool for SV-on, and we decided we're going to disallow that era after all. The main reason is that those cards haven't had a chance to "prove themselves" yet, so to speak, so it's harder to cull the "meta" ones from our lists. The...

Contest March 2023 CaC: Synergy: Stage 2 (All Results Up!)

The selections will be randomly generated, but they'll be from lists we've curated to exclude Pokémon that were too historically strong (like Gardevoir SW) or too uninteresting to build off of (like Luxray FST). Some Stage 2 Pokémon ex, Pokémon-GX, and Primes do make the lists.

Contest March 2023 CaC: Synergy: Stage 2 (All Results Up!)

I'm familiar with Jason's blog, but PMJ and I have also played most of the game's formats and we know what to look for in terms of Stage 2s to send out for this theme. Thanks for the link anyhow. :) Omnium and other custom blanks are more than okay for this theme! You just have to decide in...

Contest March 2023 CaC: Synergy: Stage 2 (All Results Up!)

FAQ, to be expanded as necessary: "Synergy" can mean a lot of different things depending on the card(s) in question. The internet defines it as "the interaction or cooperation of two or more [cards] to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects," which is a good...

Contest March 2023 CaC: Synergy: Stage 2 (All Results Up!)

Welcome to the March 2023 round of the Create-a-Card! This month’s theme is Synergy: Stage 2. Synergy — how well a card or effect plays with some other card or effect — is a staple of the Pokémon TCG. Archeops SIT’s Primal Turbo is one of the most powerful Abilities in the game, but it...

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

Image-Based Results Judge: @Jabberwock We saw several non-standard type-change justifications this month in addition to the Tera Pokémon and Delta Pokémon mainstays. Creativity is on the rise, and I see good attention being paid to balancing, too. That said, don’t let your wording and...

    TCG Fakes Site: EX-CardMaker

They look great! Fonts look pretty close to perfect, apart from the alignment thing. Don't forget to update the Illustrator credit, though; as a matter of policy we delete cards with improper credit in an effort to reduce art theft. :)

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

That's a somewhat late wrap on this round of the CaC! We'll be back at the end of the month with results. Stay tuned!

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

You're good! Hadn't officially closed sign-ups yet ... ... and with that, sign-ups are closed! Keep an eye on that deadline, and we look forward to seeing what you all come up with this month!

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

Yep — Psychic, Ghost, and Poison were all represented by [P] in XY and SM, so making a Pokémon of one of those types into a [Y] card in one of those eras would certainly fit the bill for this theme. (Unless of course the Pokémon was something like Gardevoir or Mimikyu, which can conventionally...

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

A little bit, yeah — for our purposes, [W] is a TCG type, while [W]-with-[M]-Weakness is just a subset of that. Changing Gyarados's Weakness/Resistance isn't really the same thing as changing its type. Good question, though!

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

Unfortunately that does go against the intent of the theme — we're looking for a Pokémon with a TCG type it can't normally have, and inventing new TCG types is a loophole we'd rather stay closed. Similarly, inventing new Fakemon (or even using well-established Fakemon) is not allowed for this round.

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

That's fine; Metagross DS was Lightning/Metal but counted as a Delta Species Pokémon. If it has at least one type it couldn't normally have, you're good. Sure, provided it's the wrong type for the era.

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

FAQ from the last time we ran this theme, potentially to be expanded if we receive more questions this month: The intent of this theme is that you choose a Pokémon and assign it a type it cannot have under normal TCG typing rules. As an example, take Yanmega. [G] and [C] are both off-limits...

Contest January 2023 CaC: New Year, New Type II (All Results Up!)

Welcome to the January 2023 round of the Create-a-Card! This month’s theme is New Year, New Type, back for its second incarnation after we first used it two years ago! Throughout the TCG’s history, there have been cases where Pokémon have been given cards with types they don’t possess in the...

Contest November 2022 CaC: Scarlet & Violet (All Results Up!)

Image-Based Results Judge: @Jabberwock Happy new year! Hope you’re all having fun playing Scarlet and Violet, and thanks for joining us for our Create-a-Card rendition this month. Turns out there’s a lot of variety in red and purple Pokémon, and the freedom from mechanical restrictions meant...

Contest The Fakers' Marathon 5 - 1,116 points!

A new take on an old classic. Art by OnixTymime on dA, blank by the inimitable @CardPone. EDIT: Oh wow, my 2,022nd message — crazy for that to happen in the last few days of 2022, huh?

Contest The Fakers' Marathon 5 - 1,116 points!

Not a need by any means; just an idea! If you did change the textures, it's true that you'd probably want to use different sheets, but as you probably know, we have several texture sheets to choose from over on the dA group (most of them by icycatelf / Nekoban Ryo). :)

Contest The Fakers' Marathon 5 - 1,116 points!

They're solid attempts Char! PMJ's got the final word on points of course, but if you make recognizably new backgrounds for each TM, and then switch up the textures a little from one type to the next, I'm sure that would go a long way toward differentiating the cards visually. If that would...
