Pokemon TCG Officially Announced for Mainland China, New Printed Language for Cards!

I feel like a curmudgeonly old man about this, but as with last time, it would be disappointing to see this turn into a conversation about the politics of China. Absolutely, there are questions when a company extends its business to a new country, but that's true of ANY country – at any time. It...

Magic the Gathering To Release Cards with Pokemon’s Holofoil!

How would WOTC have the patent on a type of foil they didn't create? I was actually wondering this but I honestly never really paid enough attention to who called what holofoil by what name.. Pretty characteristic for WOTC, isn't it? It's amazing Un-sets were every funny at all. In fact, you...

Magic the Gathering To Release Cards with Pokemon’s Holofoil!

Exactly! As mentioned in the article, it starts with Base Set 2 with WOTC – for anyone really not sure, compare JP Base Set holofoils to EN Base Set holofoils to EN Base Set 2 holofoils. EN Base Set is the odd duck out.

New “Preview Box” for Scarlet & Violet TCG Releasing in January!

Why wouldn't they just match the Japanese silver border? It doesn't match the color of the 'template' of the rest of the card. i.e. the card art border is silver, the stage indicator is silver, the weakness/resistance and retreat bars are silver. There are absolutely times the yellow border...

New “Preview Box” for Scarlet & Violet TCG Releasing in January!

at this point they're probably mostly stuck with the yellow border as a trademark/intellectual property thing? i struggle to think why else it's been kept as long as it has otherwise

Swords of Justice, Claydol, Stonjourner, and More from “Paradigm Trigger!”

It has higher HP than the other cards, so things like attack cost, retreat, are necessarily adjusted

Pokemon TCG Officially Launching in China, Massive New Market!

In the context of this conversation, absolutely. The English edition of Pokémon cards, games, anime has tons of examples of censorship. It's not really to defend the Chinese culture or otherwise so much as to point out what seems strange and unusual to us can seem normal to others, and vice versa.

“Paradigm Trigger” Set Featuring Lugia VSTAR Officially Revealed!

It could be dropped. Cards no longer have the "(before your attack)" reminder following "As many times as you like during your turn" as that too was never on the original JP card.

“Paradigm Trigger” Set Featuring Lugia VSTAR Officially Revealed!

Did you expect them to stop printing VMAXes? Pokémon EX kept being printed alongside Pokémon BREAK, Pokémon GX kept being printed alongside Tag Team GX, and so of course VMAX will continue to be printed alongside VSTAR. Both will disappear when the block ends. It wasn't forgotten, it isn't on...

Pokemon Japan Takes Action Against Resealed Booster Boxes

Oh hey, don't worry. I didn't mean it as a 'gotcha' question. Like some other people in the thread have pointed out, I don't think EN boxes have any guaranteed number of rares per box, and absolutely are not mapped (I think SM base was and that's kind of been it?) so anti-tamper action seems...

Gardevoir from “Pokemon TCG Online Illustration Exhibition”

That's your takeaway form this conversation? Kind of ironic but mostly sad :(

Gardevoir from “Pokemon TCG Online Illustration Exhibition”

Pokémon has tons of references to interesting trivia, it's just a lot less overt about it and a lot of it gets lost in localization. Bulbapedia in particular has...restrictive, policies in place about what can be cited on its wiki. On the one hand it's good because it keeps a lot of headcanon...

Armarouge, Ceruledge, Klawf, and More Revealed from “Pokemon Scarlet & Violet!”

Aren't they temporal forms of Gardevoir and Gallade or something? I'm only half-paying attention anymore.
