Ruling Code at the bottom left corner of a card?

I just realized that there's some kind of code in the bottom left corner of the cards printed in 2004-2005, maybe other years (Deoxys, etc). What is this? It's different on each one, even on the same card (I have 2 Lotads and they both have different codes). Just curious.

I assume you mean the VA8-Y2Y-N8F on this card, right?

Each card during the EX era is assigned one, and each kind of card has a different number. I believe if the kind of card itself is identical (e.g. 2 Dusclops both from Ex Deoxys), that code will be the same as well.

It's really just a little something on the card and has no purpose. It may have had something to do with the e-Reader, which never took off over here. So the "codes" are nothing really special.
