After the releasing of SM5, my friend have tried this deck, I have to admit that it works very well and Empoleon was really being underrated. Let's check out what is included in the deck:
4 Piplup
3 Prinplup
4 Empoleon
2 Oranguru
2 Tapu Fini GX
2 Tapu Lele GX
3 Prof. Sycamore
2 Cynthia
3 N
3 Guzma
2 Brigette
4 Ultra Ball
3 Rare Candy
2 Rescue Stretcher
2 Field Blower
2 Float Stone
3 Choice Band
3 Aqua Patch
11 Water Energy
I have made some changes from my friend's deck. I always doubt the practicality of Brooklet Hill, especially when there is Brigette. Also, my friend prefer Octillery insteand of Oranguru, I think the choice is quite a optional one. His version also included Manaphy Ex for free retreat in the his own deck. However, in my opinion, the true power of non gx decks are using 1 prize to ezchange 2 prizes and Manaphy EX is really being a weak spot.
Why Empoleon though? Look carefully with the move Total Command, This attack does 20 damage times the number of Pokemon on each player’s Bench, which means the maximum damage of this attack will be 200~230, that means that you can OHKO most of the pokemon GX with only 2 water energy. The second attack can also slow down your opponent, when you Whirlpool your opponent's Zoroark DCE, that might coz them a lot i the late game. Most of all, look at it's weakness, Empoleon was weak to Electric type, making it still stand a chance to win when it is facing Golisopod GX.
The weakness of Empoleon is that it can't do a massive amount of damages if your opponent don't put poekemon on benches, but they also have to face the problem that they aren't manage to set up the game. To be honest, I think Empoleon is one of the most powerful non gx attacker in the game, even better that Garchomp as Garchomp requires to use Cynthia turn by turn and can't let us to Guzma the target out.
