Finally Hitting The Wrestling Mat Again

I am a (REAL) wrestler and the sport is my passion.
In December I herniated 3 discs in my lower back and I wrestled through the tremendous pain for over a month when my dad told me that I had to get some full body scans because he didnt want to see me in pain anymore. He finally talked me into going to the doctor and I was told I may have had to have surgery and be in a wheelchair, which also meant I would never be able to wrestle again. I started physical therapy and all I cared about was fixing my back and not having to get surgery. Eventually, with a lot of work, my back has slowly gotten better. All the pain throughout my legs from the nerves being pinched in my back is gone. All of my lower back pain and leg pain went away completely about a month ago. The neurosurgeon gave me the greatest news of my life around that time. He told my I would not have to have surgery and I could start wrestling again in the summer.
About a month ago I went to a local Freestyle practice and I was able to wrestle for the first time in over 5 months. If I were to have felt pain at all I knew my wrestling career would have been over, but during those 2 hours, I felt absolutely no pain. I beat everyone I wrestled and I was able to do things I would have never thought I could ever do again, things like suplays(suplexes) and gut wrenches and bridges.
I have made a full recovery but I missed most of the Freestyle and Greco season, but I have recently been invited to the Oklahoma Freestyle State Championships, which are this weekend :) I will be wrestling my first match in almost over 6 months. I have only wrestled Folkstyle in the past, and freestyle will be a change but I feel I can come away with a top 3 placing at state, hopefully the Championship.

I just moved to Oklahoma 3 weeks ago, I lived in Kansas. I will not be finishing school in Kansas this year but I will finish out my last few weeks of my junior year in Oklahoma. State rules make it that if you want to do varsity sports at a school you have to have attended the school the year before. I have lived in the town I currently live in my whole life, but my opportunities are more prominent in Oklahoma, as well as my dad receiving a better job down there.
Thank you everyone for reading this. I do hope I can work hard this winter and do work at state!

Just Throwing out an Update 7-09-2010

I am headed to OSU for a technique camp starting this sunday, it lasts about a week and on the last day there is a tournament :)
So I will post how I did at the tourny and how the camp was when I get back :)

Really? I always thought that after Highschool and College, there was pretty much nothing left for anyone into wrestlers, unless you were good enough to compete in the olympics. After that, I thought there was nothing. So could you please explain to me, as well as most the other people that might see this, what exactly is this post-schooling wrestling. Like is it enough to work off of that you can make a living? Is it just a free time hobby thing? Like I'm completely in the dark here.

Well I am still in high school. I will be for another year. But During the spring and all the way through summer, there are 2 other forms of wrestling. Freestyle and Roman-Greco which is not associated with high schools. These ae called international styles. America is the only place that has "folkstyle" wrestling, which is what we do in High school. After college there is nothing to do other than adult tournaments, which doesnt pay or anything. I feel you mistook the word "career." All I meant with career was my future in wrestling.

here is an update on how I did.

Overall, in Roman-Greco, I took 3rd in the state, which was my goal :)

Nice job! And epic recovery! (I honestly don't follow wrestling and dont know what Roman-grecos, gut wrenches, or suplays are, but 3rd in state in anything is great! :p)

Thanks!

and Roman-Greco is the type of wrestling. It consists of ALL upperbody, you are not allowed tto use anything below your waist (legs etc) and you are not allowed to use anything below their waist (legs feet etc)

Suplays are suplexes.

Gut wrenches suck and take a lot of energy. lol

Last year I went to the Brands-Gable Iowa Wrestling Technique camp over the summer, and this summer, I will be going to their rival camp, John Smith OSU technique camp.
I cant wait :)
