Discussion Gender Equality in TCG Cards?

Hi, its me here.

With the release/leaks of Black Bolt and White Flare, I noticed that a Hilda card was leaked. Will they do an SIR of her? Probably, as women are mostly capitalised on by not just Pokemon, but every other TCG.

One Piece, Weiss Shwarz, literally EVERYTHING, capitalises on them. And for someone like me who likes male trainers (dont take this off topic), i feel very unhappy.

In the history of SV, there are NO men trainers/trainers pokemon which go above 50, not even 100. Only reason they go for over that is because theyre one of the MCs OR a legendary pokemon is on their art aka Ethan’s ho-oh, rockets mewtwo.

Women, on the other hand, they can release any card and the community goes crazy for some reason. From gym leaders, random sightseers, and to a totally random lady with a parasol and a rainbow. Sun and moon at least had red and blue (and also Lillie and that random sightseer) and now you’re telling me theres this surging influx of women trainers and trainers pokemon being the main chase of the set EXCEPT for Glory Of Team Rocket and Journey Together, with Rocket having more men then women in SIRs and Journey Together having an equal amount.

Literally most of the SV sets, have at least ONE female character/trainers pokemon SIR that goes for absurd amounts, other than Obsidian Flames and Prismatic, because of the better Pokemon chases. In all other cases, I feel that the womens’ SIRs go for WAYYY more then the mens’, and im not making this up. And sometimes, the men dont even get one, such as in Obsidian Flames where only Geeta and Poppy got them.

With the leaks of Black Bolt and White Flare, i do hope that they release at LEAST a Hilbert/N SAR for us so that we can level it with the Hilda SAR that they will probably make.

What are your opinions on this topic? Hope to hear some thoughts from you guys!

Scarlet/Violet: Miriam, Penny
Paldea Evolved: Iono, Dendra
Obsidian Flames: NA (both Geeta and Poppy weren’t that popular, but they got SIRs and Ortega was stuck with a full art)
Paradox Rift: Parasol Lady (this was during release time, it has fallen a lot already), Sada’s vitality, Rika, Tulip, Mela
Paldean Fates: The return of Iono, Nemona and Penny just there
151: Erikas invitation was more popular than Giovannis charisma
Temporal Forces: Biancas devotion outshadowed Morty and Eri…was just there
Twilight Masquerade: Both Perrin and Carmine, Lana was just there
Shrouded Fable: Casseopia or something (just penny)
Stellar Crown: Lacey (Briar as well)
Surging Sparks: Lislias Appeal, Jasmine over Clemont and Drayton
Prismatic Evolutions: nope all got overshadowed by that sunbreon BUT it’s Lacey, amarys and janine
Journey Together: Lillies Clefairy, Ionos bellibolt (props to pokemon for the Ns zoroark though!)
Destined Rivals (Heat Wave): Cynthias Garchomp (Ethans Ho-Oh is around $100 behind and arven…not that popular)
Destined Rivals (Glory of Team Rocket): oh my god finally 4/6 of them have men. Ariana and the Rockets Crobat.
Black Bolt/White Flare: Hilda (they will 1000% do an SIR.)

-MEN-
SV base: Arven and Jacq (didn’t go for much at the time, probably not now as well)
Paldea Evolved: there…was one..? Oh right…Boss’s orders (Ghetsis)
Obsidian Flames: NA (absolutely no men in SIRs.)
151: Again, Giovanni was outshadowed. He is going to be back soon.
Paldean Fates: Arven….and Clive.
Paradox Rift: i dont think there was one…oh wait Turo’s Scenario
Temporal Forces: good bye morty and Salvatore
Twilight Masquerade: my boy kieran
Shrouded Fable: No men in SIRs.
Stellar Crown: nope!
Surging Sparks: who? Clemont and Drayton?
Prismatic: Kieran and Drayton are back!!! With Crispin as well! And…against a $1500 sunbreon.
Journey Together: Hop and N. (This set has equality so ill ignore this)
Destined Rivals (Heat Wave): Arven (gets no presence) and Ethan (second best)
Destined Rivals (team rocket): Finally…equality of some sort…4 men in SIRs. Most of them are Giovanni tho
Black Bolt/White Flare: maybe cheren but Hilbert/N would save this set so much

I'm a little confused on your lists, whether they are supposed to list all SIR Supporters or just expensive ones.

Either way, here are some that are missing from your lists:

* Paradox Rift has the Professors (one for male and one for female), Rika, Tulip, and Mela
* Dendra was in Paldea Evolved not SV base, along with Giacomo, Saguaro, and Grusha
* Paldean Fates also had Clive
* Temporal Forces also had Eri and Salvatore
* Surging Sparks also had Jasmine
* Prismatic Evolutions also had Crispin

Perhaps we should look at this from the perspective of markets. Now English trainers are known not to be very valuable while, as you stated Japanese trainers, but only "waifus", mostly hold value. Now if we look at The Simplified Chinese market, they seem to share the same love for trainers as Japan, but that's not to say the Arven SIR from 'Eternal Beginnings' (first S&V SC set) isn't worth the same amount as Miriam SIR, sitting at the top of the list for value in the set.

Youre right! Most of the time in English, cards like Paldean Fates Iono soar to heights that we would have never seen!

…and now its $22.99 on tcgplayer. Feel bad for those who bought the card during that craze.

Why do collectors, pardon, collect all the cards and merchandise of minors though like theres this masters ex Lillie playmat which is, yes, limited, but it does NOT have to be over $1000 and we all know how expensive Lillie cards can get…

This waifu issue is really becoming a problem for those people who just want to collect cards of their favourite trainer, and then theres this probably ‘dirty-minded’ market coming in, and just moving up the price of them…and for someone like me who mainly collects Japanese as English has many scalpers now….this craze for female trainer cards in Japan is going to be the end of me…

Sadly this is true for everything everywhere, not just the TCG. Compare genders on advertisements or marketing pictures or anything you want, you will always find more women than men. This is the result of centuries of male-dominated society who react positively to seeing women, and not men.

Yea, i kind of feel sad because some of my favourite trainers are men and they dont get good cards
