Collecting How do You Price Your Cards?

Simple question, really. What is generally condidered the best way to price cards? I'm making an online trade, and while we came to the same conclusion as to equity in cards traded, the values rearched were vastly different. He said he used TCGPlayer, which I did as well? So, do you all go based on market price, median price, or somewhere in between?

I mostly trade/sell at my LCS, so I tend to use 90-100% of the price they sell the card at. IE, regular Lele-GX sells for $50, so I might sell it for $45 instead. Trades are significantly harder to instantly value, so in those cases I'll gauge how much the other person wants the card, and choose cards from their binder based on that.

When I trade/sell with someone at my LCS though, I always let them keep the sleeve and perfect fit because I notice a lot of people unsleeve the card they're trading away and I really don't like that

I would highly disagree with Trollandtoad as the prices tend to be all over the place. I would suggest using TCGPlayer to value out your cards.

When I use TCGPlayer, I always look at the cheapest price available based on the condition of the card I am either selling or buying. If my card is near mint, I will look at the lowest price for near mind and use it to value my card. Same goes for the cards of the person I am trying to trade with. Some people will look at market price, but I feel like it varies from person to person. Just ask the person you are trading with how they are valuing their cards and which prices they are looking at. If you do not agree, just move on and find another trade.

At the end of the day, we're trading with people not with stores. If I wanted to pay $10 retail for a card, I would just go to a store and pay $10 retail. The whole point of trading from person to person is that prices can be negotiated.

Ecko, I very much like your idea and agree, T&T is on the high side and unstable. Using the lowest price for your card condition makes sense. A reasonable, impartial person would choose to go with the lower priced seller if you went above that point.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
