Ignoring Members

Okay. Let me start off by "sucking up" and telling our webmaster WPM what a great job he has done on the site. (Clap, Clap, Clap, $,$,$). Anyways, I would like to discuss the problem of the FEATURE of ignoring members through PM.

I, like most people, see it sensible to have a feature where a certain PB member can ignore another member who is annoying them or just doing something the other member does not like.

However, when a new member joins PB I believe Biases quickly arise and make this place go nuts with ignore. OK so maybe not just rookie forumers do this, but many immature or members-with-short-fuses do this act of ignoring.

Ignoring members can be detrimental to how we are unified as a site. The clan council sees unified clans, but we members need to see OUR clan, PB Forums. A place where everyone should have rights and all.

Now, here are a few instances I have PERSONALLY experienced that affected me thorugh the ignoring of posts or by PM.

IE: The member ROTOM ROTOM ROTOM and I never met, never exchanged hellos, I never even spoke to the member. But for some inexplicable reason, they ignored me. I discovered this when responding to their trade thread. I wanted to make a trade that could benefit this member's personal collection, or deck, but I went to hit PM this person ignored me. Why?

EspeonROX and I used to be friends. Through some details, we are not friends. I do not hold grudges and went to apologize. IGNORED. I then asked in the Trade Thread if he could unblock me for purposes of friendly apology. No. Ignored on 3 SEPERATE OCASSIONS.

You see. Ignoring is not the way. I believe if a member is bothering you, you should report this to the heirarchy of the site which is what their job is. You should tell them how they are bothering you and they can help.

Ignoring makes the bonds to the members on our site break. We need to stop this by getting rid of ignore and becoming a site full of bountiful relationships.

I hope you consider this.

Thanks.

I agree 100% with this. Excellent point, and an interesting thought. It probably has it's uses though, and I think the function should remain. But an excellent arguement!

You do raise a point. While the lines of communication should not be closed usually, some people are just ignorant and don't want to deal with their problems. So they ignore them (no pun intendant!).

I never saw much need for this system, to be honest. You can just not read PMs from the other party or not look at their posts. You don't have to systematically block them out with a system.

Anyway, the idea does make a good amount of sense. Ho hum... I suppose some things never change.

Yeah, the Buddy and Ignore system definately are running on empty. Even many Mods say this function is dang near useless and you shouldn't even use it. Unfortunately, many members decide on Ignore first, never ask questions later, and this is where it has taken us. I don't believe in the "friendly and more bonds" part. It's just a Pokemon forum, it's not that big of a deal. If you have a problem with it, email the person and calmly talk to them, or have a mediator help you out.

Yeah! I agree with all that stuff...yeah....that stuff you said....

I don't ignore people, although there are some annoying people that I just avoid through obnoxious comments that cause them to ignore me, which aves time! jk...I don't really do that...I'm just kidding...don't warn me...

:D

Ignoring people is a little weird, as we really can all be friends! You just have to give people a chance...or maybe a couple chances...

But sometimes, people fail after like 3 chances, and then Jigglypuff can't take it any more, and draws funny marks on their faces.

Ignoring some one shows that you don't trust them in being a good person, and not trusting some one to be a good person is the same is not being a good person.

Dmaster; True it is just a forum. But you can meet lots of cool people in pokemon and the forum is a great way to get started in all aspects of pokemon.

I am not saying people aren't ignorant, I am saying go to the mods with issues, no ignore button.

Thanks for your respective opinions.

There's not that many really cool people here; unless you meet up in real life, then it might really matter. But I'd say Mods can take care of any problems people have...

I know. If mods can handle them, than no ignore butoon.

Also there is like 7,000 members here. And I have met at least 10 in real life.

Oh, I edited my response. I didn't specify the people. 7,000 is a big number, but that doesn't really mean squat if they have bad attitudes.

I think most of it is just immaturity. If I remember correctly, Kevin said that the average age was like twelve or something.

Ignoring people can be a short term solution, but in regards to real life, you aren't going to have that option.

So you all think mods want to deal with your problems.
I know you guys cans solve your own problems.
Besides, you can't be friends with everyone.

i don´t see why you guys care so much if someone you´ve never met (and probably never will) ignores you...what, that makes you question yourself what you´ve been doing wrong on the site? maybe you should just take it as it is and not care about those people...again, you´ve never met them before so what gives? and for the people you´ve met beforehand and they just ignored you, then at least you´ll know they were never your friends...and thus should not care about. just don´t let things like this bother you, there are tons of things in life that are worth the worrying, this is not one of those. remember this is a forum, not real life.

In my opinion, there should be no ignore system. If Some immature member is annoying you, you rather need to see a doctor, or you'll shrug it off, and keep responding to their 5-10 PM's and that would end it. If it gets out of hand enough for a person to need to be ignored, than report it to a mod. End of story. This would be better because, if anyone remembers, A long time ago, I was A little noob who got warned so much, 5 minutes after my ban ceased, I got banned again. Now, I have a 0% warning, and I feel I fit in with the other members. If people would of ignored me, They might of missed out on some good trades. People make mistakes, and change. I think ignoring members is an immature way to promote convienice at the moment.

I think what LL siad covers this. Its fine for on forums, I mean you don't HAVE to speak to these people, and you will never see htem in real life, but ignoring someone in real life is a big mistake. Trust me, been there and done it.

As Litmitless commented that the average age is 12 (which I am), I think the ignore system should be got rid of. It just makes people having an unfriendly rivalry, its supposed to be kind here. The ignore system just breaks people away from each other...

WPM gets on my nerves when he constantly ignores users PMs.

1: He doesn't PM noobs (no offense)
2: He doesn't care what you have to say unless it matters, and I doubt what you wanted to say to him mattered unless it was directly about the site (no offense)
3: he's WPM. That means he is VERY busy.

WPM has a life, he can't listen to every annoying PM people throw at him. If I was in his place, I'd do the same thing.
