Hi there! I played pokemon as a kid, and when I grew up, like many, I gave it up. I started collecting again for fun, but I couldn't help wondering if it would be fun to play again. I picked up a few theme decks and I play casually with my girlfriend and some other friends.
There's a regional tournament coming up where I live, and I've found a weekly meeting I might go to. I'm trying to build up a couple of decks for my girlfriend and I to play for practice, and in weekly meetings. I feel like I'll better understand the strategy as I go along, and I've done a little reading into what makes an effective deck, but all the info is a bit overwhelming. I'm just looking for some help developing 2 or so solid decks with some basic strategies.
Obviously I'd LOVE to use Pokemon that I like, but I understand strategy comes first. I also beefed up recently on some staple trainers. Here's a list of what I have in no particular order--
Trainers: Ether x3
Colress machine x5
Hypnotoxic lazer x5
Colress x5
Switch x1
Full heal x1
Escape Rope x3
Giant Cape x2
Celios Network x1
Pokemon Catcher x2
Armor Fossil x1
Skull Fossil x1
Level Ball x4
Great Ball x1
Crystal Edge x1
Eviolite x4
Potion x7
Energy Search x6
Pokemon Communication x4
Revive x3
Pokeball x4
Heavy Ball x1
Energy Retreival x3
Professor Juniper x9
Max Potion x1
Victory Piece x2
First Ticket x2
Team Plasma Grunt x4
Super Rod x3
Bicycle x4
Exp Share x12
Plus Power x2
Cilan x A bunch
Cheren x a bunch
Rare Candy x10
Bianca x8
EX Pokemon (all x1)
Victini
Mewtwo
Black Kyurem plasma
White Kyurem plasma
Kyurem Boundaries
Terrakion
Lugia Plasma
Zapdos Plasma
Keldeo
Now I would list the basics and evolutionary families I have, but there are a bunch. In an ideal world, I stick to Gen 1 and Gen 2 pokemon, just because of nostalgia, but again I'm aware that strategy will come first in a competitive deck. I'd really like something that uses Charizard or Blastoise.
Ultimately, I want to make two well balanced and solid decks that can play each other without one being completely dominant. But let's focus on one good deck, shall we? What strategy would you suggest for a beginner? What sorts of evolutionary families would play well with some of the Trainers and EX pokemon I have? Thank you for any help in advance. I really appreciate it.
