Hello, everyone. I was just wondering as to the worth, rarity, and availability of the Pokémon VS series from Japan? I am not looking for cards from the series right now, per say, however, I was just wondering if you guys can enlighten me regarding the rarity of these cards, and how much singles, boxes, and packs go for? Also, what is the demand for them here, like for people to buy singles? Let me know! :D

Thanks!

Well, I myself AM looking for them. Well, some of them. lol A few web sites online do have them, but most are sold out. So that doesnt work. However, they still have the price tag on them. Most of them are only worth $1-3 dollars.
So that makes them easy to afford, but finding them on the other hand is a problem.

If you get any good leads, let me know.

The last set on eBay I saw, went for $250. http://cgi.ebay.com/Japanese-Pokemon-VS-1ST-EDITION-Complete-150-Card-Set-/150507375341?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230af04aed

There were a handful of test production english prints made, in preparation to bring the set across, but it never happened. The few english prints that exist are rare and limited.

i am also looking for many vS cards anyone got any to trade please pm me...i have xtra machamp and togetic for trade atm.....thats interesting they made a few test english ones...

I am only missing 5 for my vs set. most cards are 1-2 each..holos 6-10. trainers 2-3. collectors cache, stop2shop, others have them in stock. English Vs were made in a SUPER special tournament similar to worlds in 2001. each invite only player was given a vs deck in their natural language and they had to all play each other with it. hence..however many english players got english decks..the information is on bulbapedia if anyone wants to try and find it..

boxes are like..2000? i think or more..packs like..100 or more. and bear in mind I've never seen a store have any in stock either

My brother bought a Japanese pack of them from Walmart a couple years back. Didn't know they were so rare haha.

You can get a couple of them off of Stop2Shop...

That's really cool that there were some english VS cards. I wonder if there are any pictures anywhere? It would be awesome to see some of them. The VS set was amazing in my opinion and I was very disappointed when we did not get it in the US.

the VS series sets are pretty rare to come by only a handful have a complete set which does not include the Rockets tyranitar.some will have em just as singles.majority of the cards are 1-2 each just a few certain ones are 3-10 while lance's charizard went to a big 40 dollar mark just these past few weeks on ebay.holos are pretty cheap 5-10 each

^ im 5 away from a full set :p

lol.

On topic:

as I said before, packs are Very hard to come buy and are Super expensive

the only pack people want the most is the fire/water pack.a booster box is about 160 shipped now from japan on ebay from the same seller selling the same packs lol.i'm just glad i have a complete box and a complete set but that Rocket's tyranitar is annoying to find

Hmm. I would usually close a thread like this given that it's quite old and got revived. However, there is a very interesting discussion point here about the mega battle deck variants. You can check out images of them here in this catalogue, but the set list of English cards printed include:

  • Falkner’s Fearow
  • Bugsy’s Yanma
  • Whitney’s Furret
  • Morty’s Hypno
  • Jasmine’s Raichu
  • Chuck’s Donphan
  • Pryce’s Cloyster
  • Clair’s Mantine
  • Janine’s Beedrill
  • Will’s Xatu
  • Bruno’s Hitmonchan
  • Potion
  • Switch
  • Super Scoop Up
  • Energy Ark
  • Tropical Breeze
  • Energies

The cards were only given to participants of the 2001 Tropical Mega Battle as a complete deck so they could use them for play.

Yay, my catalogues are getting attention :D

Read the info bit - it has lots of info about how the cards were distributed and the English versions. It's a very interesting set. Wizards didn't print it because they were afraid the evolution cards (what would now be the SP Pokémon) would overpower the format.

^ In truth the entire set is horrible play-wise, even by old school standards. I don't know why they were afraid

Wow, those English VS cards are very cool! :) Thanks for showing us!
