PokéPoetry! #2​


Once again, PB writers, it's time for an exhilarating contest! We are excited to introduce a new style of contest - one that we've never done before. I don't want to espouse a bunch of superfluous jargon, so I'll cut to the chase. We are introducing a poetry contest. "Well, what do we have to do?" "What does this contest entail?" Simply, you must follow these rules, and we will explain.

Rules

I. You must reserve a post in this thread, detailing your chosen style of poetry. Example:

Code: 
Username: William Shakespeare
Chosen style: Sonnet (Iambic Pentameter)

II. Once we acquire the list of names from your reserved posts, we will RANDOMLY assign a Pokémon with which you will create your freestyle poem.
  • Your poem must at least contain five lines to be accepted, with the sole exception being a haiku.
  • As always, proper spelling and grammar are a must.
  • Be descriptive!

III. Don't plagiarize; any instances of plagiarism will result in a disqualification from the contest and a ban.

IV. You will be able to choose up to three of your favorite poems during the judging phase. You will be able to either "like" the contestant's post or send a PM to Ice Arceus with the name(s) of the contestant('s)/poem's title.

V. You may edit your poem until the voting phase begins.

This contest will be very relaxed, and you will be given the opportunity to write your poem in any way you desire. For example, if you are assigned a dark, gloomy Pokemon like Mismagius, you are free to make your poem reflect upon that Pokemon's nature and type, or you may completely surprise us and write the complete opposite and incorporate the positives and playfulness of Mismagius. It's all up to you! A few examples of the types of poetry are as follows:
  • Free Verse
  • Blank Verse
  • Haiku
  • Sonnet
  • Epic
  • Limerick
  • Song (duh!)
    And many, many more... (Google's your friend)

Important Dates

8/30 - Sign Ups begin.
9/4 - Sign Ups end and Pokémon are assigned.
9/13 - Entries for Round Two are due and voting begins.
9/16 - Voting ends and winners are announced!

Pokemon Knight

Prevail for Hoenn! Prevail!
I have risen to the rank of Knight. Behold! Behold!

My unsheathed claws snap at your sword.
It breaks! You attack, but my armor deters it.
What shall you do now? Surely stabbing yours truly would not break this shield of old.

You dare question me?
I am undefeated in combat!

I chortle at your attempts to hinder my offense.
Ha, I say! My pinchers would have, a second ago,
clipped those useless steel of plates like a wing of Zubat!

Unmatched intellect is imperative to wars.
The option for flight or fight? I never flew like a fleeting coward!

You belittle my war instincts, just once,
and you'll wish you were never born!
With me, my army continues to march forward.

With my battle wits, the Pokemon Knights of Hoenn continue to prevail!

To Wither in my Physical Torment,
But only a True Friend and Companion,
Would Trust These Clawsy Claws of Mine.​

Back and forth from bark to mud,
the sharp incisors begin to unleash their true power.
Slowly awakening from the midst of sleep,
Bibarel arises to work and creep.
Towards the darkening horizon that lays ahead,
Bibarel ensures its true strength stays at bay.

Looks like I got my Grass-type this time. So Foongus, let's go ahead and teach them how to rhyme.

A Fungus Among Us

You're walking down a grassy route
And find a Pokeball shape.
But once observing all about,
Your mouth will hang agape.

Foongus is known to be a pretty fun guy
Whose basis is a shroom.
Although, he's crafty with that disguise
And doesn't sweep like his brethren Breloom.

Foongus regenerates like never before
And can wall your every whim.
He'll put you to sleep with a perfect Spore.
Paras, you've got nothing on him.

Foongus may not be as menacing as the infamous Mewtwo,
But at least this shroom can provide hours of sleep for you.​

Even though this took about 20 minutes to think through, it was fun to write and adding in puns was fun (fun guy = fungi, etc.).

My entry:

Regice
I once went on a journey
Through Hoenn and all eternity
At a time I had to ski
Through a place shrouded with mystery
In an island cave
I wait
and wait
It is so cold that I am getting faint
Then chamber opens
and I am faced
with the entity in which this poem is based
the great regice
I readied my ultraballs
with a catch rate of thrice
for I had already used my masterball
on that Wurmple which I oh so loved it's call
I sacraficed
5 of my pokemon
then I threw one final ball
the one which would decide it all
it clicked once
twice
three times I see
then I knew regice was for me
It doesn't matter no more
I fear I won't reach the door
I had lost all escaping hope
then I remembered that beloved escape rope​

Oh yeah and do we have to pick a poem type and stick with it or can we change poem types? I'm sure this thread will get a lot of hypes. I wish we got to chose our Pokemon types.

What rule? You are free to change your poem style up until poems have to be submitted in.

Guys, wait until you are assigned a Pokemon before you write your Poem. This is the entire
point.

Ugh, time to get started on Bayleef...

So, um yeah... Someone who actually likes Bayleef, maybe explain why? Please...

So, SheNinja gets to talk about evolution.
IA gets to talk about how derpy Birbarel is.
LuckyFire gets a good pokemon that she has probably used...
And I get stuck with Bayleef, yet another pokemon that I have never used or even battled.

Lets hope I can think of another PUNiful Title to get three likes again!
