The Titan's Return
by DNA

I love Regigigas to pieces. So much, in fact, that I want to try and use him, or at least cronies that work for him, in VGC 2013. But obviously that won't be easy, nor can I hope to try and do what I did at VGC 2012 in November and hope to get results. Thus, I will be scrapping that team and building anew from scratch.

The goal: be as annoying and as fast as possible.

~~~
Obviously, Regigigas. He is going to be my main man. That's the whole point of the team.
[sprite]486[/sprite]
Now, to think of his partner. It needs to be someone who can get rid of Slow Start. Last time it was Reuniclus, who Skill Swapped Magic Guard onto the guy so he could abuse Toxic Orb Facade. But that's a bit too slow for my taste, so I thought of what could help, and I thought of Whimsicott. It has access to Prankster Worry Seed, letting Gigas get up and running right away.
[sprite]486[/sprite] [sprite]547[/sprite]
I want to continue the trend of being annoying, so who's annoying, tricky, fast, and effectively out of left field? An answer came to me right away: Cloyster.
[sprite]486[/sprite] [sprite]547[/sprite] [sprite]91[/sprite]
But since Cloyster, like Gigas, really needs a partner to get that Shell Smash off quickly, he needs someone who can draw attention, at least for a little bit. I look up who got Rage Powder and Follow Me, and I had to decide between Volcarona and Amoonguss. Going with the theme, the better choice seems to be Amoonguss.
[sprite]486[/sprite] [sprite]547[/sprite] [sprite]91[/sprite] [sprite]591[/sprite]
4 down, 2 to go. Again, I need someone annoying and fast, plus a good partner who can work with it. Weirdly enough, I think of Terrakion and Azelf.
And now for the fun bit.
[animate]regigigas[/animate]
Regigigas @ Leftovers
Adamant Nature (+Atk -SpA); ability Slow Start (Halves Attack and Speed for 5 turns after being sent out
EV Spread: 252 Atk 252 Spe 6 HP
Frustration // Substitute // Drain Punch // Ice Punch
Simple, but effective. Frustration is your basic STAB move, hitting for 102 BP plus STAB, even outclassing his other two moves at SE damage, unless it happens to be x4 or it resists Normal. Fire Punch could be used instead of Ice Punch, but there's other Fire around on the team (more so if Volcarona replaces Amoonguss) and Ice Punch will hit Garchomp, Lando, and the other Therians (and some Dragons) really hard. Drain Punch and Substitute are both to keep Gigas alive, and because Gigas drops 110/110/110 Substitutes, even without any defense investment they are near impossible to 1HKO outside of an SE hit.
[animate]whimsicott[/animate]
Whimsicott @ Sitrus Berry
Timid Nature (+Spe -Atk); ability Prankster (Status moves have a priority of +1)
EV Spread: 252 HP 220 Spe 38 SpDef
Worry Seed // Tailwind OR Taunt // Beat Up // Trick Room
This is not the Whimsitroll that everyone is used to. This is the support Whimsicott that makes the opponent's life a living hell. The moveset is also fairly simple. Worry Seed is what it gets off T1 to help Gigas, and Tailwind is to keep everyone's Speed up. The last 2 moves are for other support options - Beat Up is, obviously, used in tandem with Terrakion to get him up to the +4 on T1 - 200 EVs in Speed will make Whimsicott outspeed max Speed Terrakion by 1 point, but 220 Speed makes it outspeed max Speed Thundurus by 1, and Trick Room is to cancel the opponent's Trick Room, in case things go awry.
[animate]cloyster[/animate]
Cloyster @ White Herb
Jolly Nature (+Spe -SpA); ability Skill Link (Multi-hit moves always hit the max number of times)
EV Spread: 252 Atk 252 Spe 6 HP
Shell Smash // Icicle Spear // Rock Blast // Razor Shell
Lol, nothing special here. I thought about using Cinccino instead since it gets going faster, buuuuuuuuut Cloyster is objectively better, due to Icicle Spear having 100% accuracy to Tail Slap's 80% - and Ice hitting things for SE damage. Other than that...pretty self-explanatory!
[animate]amoonguss[/animate]
Amoonguss @ Black Sludge OR Mental Herb
Bold Nature (+Def -Atk); ability Effect Spore (If hit by a contact move, there's a 30% chance of burning, paralyzing, or sleeping the attacker)
EV Spread: 252 HP 252 Def 6 SpDef
Rage Powder // Spore // Protect // Giga Drain
Guess who has zero experience using Amoonguss. I'm guessing this is the right thing to do...? Rage Powder is to protect Cloyster (or his partners), Spore is Spore, Protect is Protect, and Leech Seed chains with Protect to give him more HP. I'd put Protect and/or Leech Seed on Whimsicott, but I don't have space due to support. But yeah, this is the one guy I have no real experience with.
[animate]terrakion[/animate]
Terrakion @ Expert Belt OR Life Orb
Jolly Nature (+Spe -SpA); ability Justified (Raises Attack by 1 stage whenever user is hit by a Dark-type move)
EV Spread: 252 Atk 252 Spe 6 HP
Quick Attack OR Protect // Rock Slide // Earthquake // Sacred Sword OR Close Combat
Not sure if Close Combat gets the OHKO on things that Sacred Sword doesn't. If it does, tell me, but until then I'm going with Sacred Sword. Anyway, the set here is...again, really basic. Hit fast and hit hard.
[animate]azelf[/animate]
Azelf @ Focus Sash
Timid Nature (+Spe -Atk); ability Levitate (User is fully immune to Ground-type moves)
EV Spread: 252 SpAtk 252 Spe 6 HP
Psychic // Flamethrower // Thunderbolt // Protect
Azelf could be subbed for Latios for this slot, with only minor changes to the set. Latios is more powerful and also bulkier, but Azelf is faster, and can use Flamethrower instead of having to resort to HP Fire, but doesn't have as wide of a movepool. I could easily sub it, but whatever. I think Azelf could work, but if it doesn't, tell me. I'm open to suggestions.
~~~

Yeah, I really don't know. I have about a month to build this team from scratch and I need/want all the help I can get. I didn't want to waste too many words on pretty explanations, so I just wanted to cut to the chase.
Help, please...? <3 ?

Two simple changes should be made: Make Amoonguss with Effect Spore, rather than Regen. Regen is only useful if you're planning on switching a lot, which won't likely happen to often.. Also forget about black sludge. Also, I'd prefer you use a Mental Herb due to taunt ruining any chance of Amoonguss being useful. Either that or replace Leech Seed with Giga Drain, so if a Taunt does happen, you at least have an attack which can keep it alive while waiting out the taunt. But IDK, the rest looks solid.

Froslass seems like it could really upset RegiG, since his attacks, besides ice punch, won't hurt him, and that's at NE damage. Priority Ice Shard could give Whimsicott some trouble, but it looks like Whimsicott is enjoying prankster, so not to much to worry about there... Your Amoongus is taunt bait. A prankster Taunt will wreck it unless you run white herb, which isn't bad because it garuntees at least one priority move in. I also noticed none of your guys are scarfed... Why not give regigigas a scarf, for speed or attack, since priority Whimsicott will remove the slow start immediately? Burns could be a huge problem too... It'll wreck most of your team... Cloyster, Terrakion, and Regigigas will be crippled from burns... The only difference between Latios and your Azelf (besides stats) is Latios has access to Draco Metoer, compared to flamethrower... I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but I think Draco meteor could help you out more if Regigigas gets ROFL'd.

But otherwise, I like the strategy behind it! :) good job bud!

Edited the Amoonguss because I clearly had no idea what I was doing. (Currently breeding for one.) Might put Leech Seed back on, but I'd have to take away Black Sludge. I'm still debating. Whimsicott is even bigger Taunt bait, but if I choose to run max Speed Beat Up, it will always go first even against other Pranksters. Still, it might deserve the Mental Herb more.

The reason none of my team is Scarfed is because I have Tailwind. I won't even need a Scarf if I have that. Plus, have you seen a Regigigas behind a Substitute? It's amazing.

Mm, you do have a point with the Froslass thing. I think I may replace Ice Punch with Fire Punch for that, since Cloyster already has Icicle Spear.

Agh, burns! Well, Gigas has Substitute, Terrakion has Protect, but lolcloyster. I need to look up to see who gets Heal Bell/Aromatherapy, to see if that'll work anywhere. Maybe, maybe not.

Mm, Draco Meteor is a pretty strong move, and is going to do insane amounts of damage. Another thing to consider! Thanks for the advice.

And now for an opinion question: Should I be running Beat Up Whimsicott in tandem with Terrakion? I will need to sacrifice bulk for speed, on top of which breeding for Beat Up is quite difficult. However, it will necessitate running max Speed Whimsicott, which will outspeed any other Prankster. This could potentially allow me to replace Trick Room with Taunt.

Keep Whimsicott as a strategy piece, not so much as an offensive fighter. In fact, any ghost type remains unaffected by your Regigigas... Dusknoir wouldn't mind will-o-wisping gigas, then slowly taking him out with pressure and other moves... I'd try a bulk up with substitute bonus... It's gives you even more bulk, makes the subs harder to break, and really gives him more time... Oh, give Whimsicott safeguard / taunt. Lead with taunt to get priority access to taunts, then safeguard to prevent status conditions... Tailwind for speed, then worry seed at regi man. No need for attacks. If you do run this, white herb is a must.

Good change on Amoongus! ;)

Point taken on tailwind... Just make sure the opponent can't ruin the tailwind! ;)

Sure, regi has subs, but if A) it gets taunted or B) priority burn takes effect, won't matter anymore.

Same goes for Terrakion. And switching on predicted burns can be dangerous to your team. Cloister is a walking magnet for Prankster burn. Oh, and try to keep the weather to a minimum... Toxic and sandstorm can really wear a team down fast... I'd consider running a timid Latios over Azelf... Just has better benefits all around. :) give regi fire punch and remove flamethrower need from Azelf! :)

Hope I've helped! :)

The team looks good, but if you change Regigigas's ability while Slow Start is active, won't Regigigas keep the stat drops?

No, because Slow Start is an invisible boost (like Rivalry), and does not work off of stages. As soon as Slow Start vanishes, so too does its effect.
