On their way to Kumquat Island, in search for the Jade Star badge, the gang took a rest on the ship. Erika and Shadow went to a spa, and Jay took one very long nap. Max, was standing on the nose, watching the sea and passing islands.
“Hey,” said a voice from behind him. He turned around to face Lindsey, and he said, “Hey.”
“I’m sorry about Furret. I wanted to tell you that she and the other two are fine.”
“For now…This Team Rocket is much more deadly than the last. I really hope they will be okay. They are our favorite Pokémon, the ones that haven’t been out of our party since we caught them.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault. By the way…”
Max grabbed a PokéBall on his belt, and it opened. The baby Totodile jumped into Lindsey's arms, happy to see her.
“He missed you,” said Max.
After some catching up, they arrived at Kumquat Island. They said their goodbye, and the gang headed off toward the gym.
“Jay,” said Shadow, “There is something you should know about the gym leader, Luana.”
“What?” asked Jay.
“Well,” said Max, “She does two-on-two matches. Which means that this won’t be as easy as before.”
“Wait,” said Shadow, “All of the leaders with special rules usually multiply the rules now. Which means…”
“Six-on-six?” asked Jay.
“Knowing her,” said Max, “I wouldn’t put it past her.”
They arrived at the gym, and Luana was waiting out there for them.
“Bout time you guys got here,” she said.
“We’ve had some,” said Max, “Trials…”
“I’ve heard. And I’d assume you guys figured out that this will be a six-on-six battle, right?”
“We had a slight inclination,” said Shadow.
Then, from above, there was a scream, a girl yelling, “HELP ME!!!!!!!”
“Elle?!?!?” exclaimed Jay. He looked in the air, and there was a girl riding a Dragonite that was being chased by Neo Team Rocket jet planes!
Jay hopped onto his Pidgeot and flew up without warning. Max sent out Charizard, and him and Shadow got on to follow.
The jets began firing missiles at the girl, and Max yelled, “Flamethrower!”
Charizard opened its mouth wide and released intensely hot flames that destroyed the missiles. Then, they fired more, and one hit the Dragonite!
The girl and her Dragonite began to fall toward the ground at a very fast speed. Jay caught the girl on Pidgeot, and then Max said, “Haunter, go!”
Haunter flew out and expanded itself to catch the Dragonite. The girl returned her Pokémon, then Max his own.
“Go, Dragonair!” said Shadow, “Ice Beam!”
“Flamethrower!” yelled Max.
The to opposite forces collided two of four planes.
Then, the one planes shot out a net, and it caught the girl, and they put on some kind of cloaking, since they mysteriously disappeared.
When they landed, Max yelled at Jay, “What in the name of Mew just happened?”
“That!” yelled Jay, “Was my sister. She disappeared a long time ago, and I now know why.”
“Team Rocket captured her,” said Shadow.
“I didn’t want to tell you guys, but I suppose there really wasn’t a way around it this time.”
Luana came up to them, and said, “Are you all okay?”
“Yeah,” said Max, “Most of us, that is…”
“Do you guys need to hold off the battle?”
“No,” said Jay in a tone that none of them ever heard him use, “Let’s do this.”
In the gym, the battle was about to begin.
“The challengers may have five minutes to deliberate on their Pokémon selections!” said the ref.
“Okay,” said Max, “This is our last match, and it’s a big one. We need to use Pokémon that work well together, while covering as many types as possible. I’m thinking my Charizard and Nidoking.”
“That’s good,” said Shadow, “I think I’ll go with my Tyranitar and Dragonair.”
“Pidgeot and Ampharos,” said Jay.
They sent out their Pokémon, and it looked like a force to be reckoned with, and then, it was Luana’s turn.
“Alright,” she said, “Alakazam, Marowak, Azumarill, Venomoth, Scizor, Meganium, go!”
She sent out her whole party.
“BEGIN!!!!!!!” yelled the ref.
“Alright,” said Max, “Charizard, start things off with Smokescreen!”
Charizard let out a pitch black smoke that covered the field, and Dragonair used its power over weather to keep it from affecting its comrades.
“Alright, Pidgeot,” said Jay, “Sky Attack!”
Pidgeot flew into the air, and dove in on Venomoth.
“Scizor,” said Luana, “Iron Defense!”
Scizor blocked Venomoth and hardened its body, so when Pidgeot hit, it got hurt.
“Charizard, get rid of the smoke!” said Max.
Charizard flapped its wings hard, and as the smoke cleared, Luana’s Pokémon were lunging at them!
“Ampharos, Zap Cannon!” yelled Jay.
Ampharos shot a lightning-ball at Azumarill, and then Luana said, “Meganium, Light Screen!”
Meganium jumped in the way, and used an energy barrier to block the attack.
“Marowak, Bone Rush!” she yelled.
Marowak began throwing its Bonemerang all over the place, knocking into all of the gang’s Pokémon.
“Tyranitar!” yelled Shadow, “Sandstorm!”
Tyranitar whipped up a sandstorm, and then Max said, “Nidoking, Charizard, Fire Blast!”
The duo released flames that wrapped around the tornadoes of sand, turning them into fire, and then, they hit each of the opponents.
Pidgeot had gotten back up, and Jay said, “Alright! Mirror Move Charizard!”
Pidgeot saw what Charizard did, then Fire Blasted the opponents.
“Ampharos, Thunder!” said Jay, “Pidgeot, Mirror Move it!”
“Dragonair, Tyranitar,” said Shadow, “Blizzard!”
“Charizard, Nidoking,” said Max, “Fire Blast! Together! The Ultimate Tri-Attack!”
“Hydro Pump, Frenzy Plant, Psychic, Earthquake, Silverwind, Steel Wing!” yelled Luana.
The attacks collided in the center of the arena, and there was a huge explosion. The smoke cleared, and each Pokémon was still standing, but barely. Each one was breathing heavily, and ready to pass out.
“C’mon guys!” yelled Max, “Charizard, can you pull off a Blast Burn?”
Charizard stood up and nodded.
“Go!” yelled Max.
Charizard lobbed a tiny fire ball into the middle of the opponents. It hit the ground, and there was a huge, fiery explosion. It was about to hit his own partners, when Shadow said, “Tyranitar, Dragonair, Protect!”
The two protected their partners from the blast.
“Hydro Pump!” yelled Luana. Azumarill released a huge Hydro Pump that stopped the Blast Burn dead in its tracks.
“Tyranitar,” said Shadow, “Use Crunch!”
Tyranitar lunged at the opponents with its tail, and then Luana said, “Light Screen Meganium!”
It blocked Tyranitar.
“Shadow,” asked Max, “Is it a good idea?”
“I think so,” said Shadow, “I got some good vibes last night.”
“Good,” said Jay, “Then let’s do it, cuz we’ve got no other option.”
“METRONOME!” they yelled together.
Charizard got a Hydro Cannon, Nidoking a Dragon Rage, Ampharos a Volt Tackle, Pidgeot a Brick Break, Tyranitar a Meteor Mash, and Dragonair got an amazing Psycho Boost.
They hit with an intensity like no other. The smoke cleared, and all the Pokémon were knocked out, even the gang’s.
“First Pokémon to stand up will win for their team!” said the ref.
“Max,” said Shadow, “Have Nidoking use Metronome if he can.”
“Alright,” said Max, “Nidoking, Metronome!”
Nidoking’s horn began to glow, and then, its whole body followed suit.
“Recover?” said Jay in amazement.
“Yes!” exclaimed Max.
“Alright Nidoking!” yelled Shadow.
Nidoking’s body was back to almost one-hundred percent, and it jumped up.
“The challengers win!” yelled the ref.
After the battle, Luana gave the gang the Jade Star Badge.
“Orange League is done for you guys now, huh?” she asked.
“Yep,” said Jay.
“That was an amazing battle,” said Shadow.
“Sorry,” said Max, “We’d love to stay and chat, but we’ve got things that need to be done ASAP.”
“I understand,” said Luana, “Best of luck in Johto and Hoenn.”
“Thanks,” they said in unison.
They decided to fly back, and they rode on Dragonair. They went back to Pallet Town.
