What Has Happened to the Sealed Booster Box Prices?

I'm one of those people that spend a lot of money on a single out-of-print booster box. I've purchased a Skyridge, Expedition, Aquapolis, Base Set and a 1st edition Neo Genesis box since I started collecting. I have paid around 500-1000$ for each one of these.

I didn't exactly get all the pulls I wanted from my Skyridge box (bought for 500$), so I went on eBay to purchase another one. I bought my first one in early 2014.

I found two Skyridge boxes there from reputable sellers. The price? 3000$. What the heck happened here?
It's not just this set, almost all of the sets from my wanted-list have skyrocket in price. Can anyone explain why? x)

I generally have these "periods" where I collect. It might go half a year between each of my purchases so I'm not too updated on the market prices.

it has an asking price of $3000, that doesnt mean anyones going to pay it.

quite simply theres just not that many boxes on the open market anymore, they will only increase in value as more are opened as well

This has been a thing for years, I don't get why it suddenly affects the market so drastically? I mean, to go from 500$ to 3000$ in a year is pretty insane.

I realize that I probably have to earn a lot of money and haul in on all the older booster boxes I want before it's too late.

because suddenly the demand outweighs the supply, i dont get whats so hard to understand
