Ruling Wonder Energy and Nightshade

I could have chosen other attacks besides Gengar EX's Nightshade (e.g., Medicham's Pure Power), but it suffices as an example. Do cards like Wonder Energy nullify the effect of attacks like Nightshade? The description provided in Wonder Energy does not rule out damage, but the effect of Nightshade is somewhat ambiguosly worded to a non-expert.
