Winners of PokeBeach’s March 2018 PTCGO Tournament!
PokeBeach’s March 2018 PTCGO Tournament is over and the winners have been crowned!
Ninety-six players competed for the title in this exciting monthly event, with the top eight players facing off in a top cut. The tournament was played in the Standard format at the time the tournament began — BREAKthrough through Ultra Prism.
Interview with the Champion
This month’s tournament was won by gumball51321! He will be shipped eighteen packs free of charge, courtesy of TCGplayer.com!
Here’s our interview with him:
What is your real name, and where do you live?
My name is Scotty Chesser, and I live in Houston, Texas.
How are you doing this season in Play! Pokemon tournaments?
I’m not doing so hot this season, since up until a couple weeks ago, I’ve been using the wrong P.I.D. for every tournament this season. And it was confirmed somebody got my points from my Regionals and Cups.
Why did you decide to participate in this tournament?
I participated because I had never played in a PokeBeach tournament before and I was confident I would do well enough to earn prizes.
[cardimg name=”Buzzwole-GX ” set=”Crimson Invasion” no=”104″ align=”right” c=”none”][/cardimg]
Why did you play Buzzwole? Were you considering any other decks?
I played [card name=”Buzzwole-GX” set=”Crimson Invasion” no=”57″ c=”name”][/card] (particularly Buzz / [card name=”Garbodor” set=”BREAKpoint” no=”57″ c=”name”][/card]) because It’s the only deck I trust, since it can set up and has the tools to beat anything without anything worse than a 45-55 matchup.
Why this specific variant?
I had tested [card name=”Lycanroc-GX” set=”Guardians Rising” no=”74″ c=”name”][/card] with Buzzwole and didn’t care too much for it, but I actually got the idea of BuzzGarb with [card name=”Max Elixir” set=”BREAKpoint” no=”102″ c=”name”][/card]s instead of [card name=”Garbodor” set=”Guardians Rising” no=”51″ c=”custom”]Trashalanche Garb[/card] from someone on PokeBeach (I’m sorry, I forgot who). And it worked surprisingly well.
What was your most exciting game or set?
My most exciting games were probably against KK-Swizzle in the finals since all 3 games were super close and for the marbles. It really came down to him misplaying on the final turn, where he could have evolved a Ralts on the Bench into [card name=”Kirlia” set=”BREAKthrough” no=”69″ c=”name”][/card] with an [card name=”Ultra Ball” set=”Sun and Moon” no=”135″ c=”name”][/card] in his hand that he didn’t play. That led to me being able to Jet Punch for the tournament.
Would you make any other changes to your list?
Although there are no cards I want to take out, I really want room for a tenth Fighting Energy, since there were quite a few times where I whiffed Elixir, since I don’t aggressively draw through my deck, thinning it out, making my Elixirs more likely to succeed.
Anything look exciting to you from Forbidden Light? How do you think the set will impact Buzzwole decks as a whole?
Beast Ring and Baby Buzz look great, and I already came up with what to drop for them (my secret). Although Naganadel-GX is certainly scary, I think the new meta decks impact Buzzwole positively since big Ultra Necrozma-GX gets Knocked Out by Buzzwole-GX with a [card name=”Choice Band” set=”Guardians Rising” no=”121″ c=”name”][/card]. Plus, with Diancie Prism Star, Buzzwole can afford to play [card name=”Fighting Fury Belt” set=”BREAKpoint” no=”99″ c=”name”][/card] over Choice Band since the damage evens out and you get more HP.
Congratulations, Scotty!
