Winners of PokeBeach’s April 2018 PTCGO Tournament!

PokeBeach’s April 2018 PTCGO Tournament is over and the winners have been crowned!TCGplayer And PokeBeach

Ninety-six players competed for the title in this exciting monthly event, with the top eight players facing off in a top cut. The tournament was played in the Standard format at the time the tournament began — BREAKthrough through Ultra Prism.

Interview with the Champion

This month’s tournament was won by Vaskemaskinen! He will be shipped two booster boxes free of charge, courtesy of TCGplayer.com!

Here’s our interview with him:

What is your real name, and where do you live?

My name is Adrian Fjell and I live in Oslo, Norway.

How are you doing this season in Play! Pokemon tournaments?

As a European with only 250 CP required [to qualify for Worlds], I have managed to accumulate well over 350 CP as of right now. Looking forward to Nashville!

Why did you decide to participate in this tournament?

The prizes are good and it is a good way to learn.

[cardimg name=”Volcanion-EX” set=”XY Black Star Promos” no=”XY173″ align=”right” c=”none”][/cardimg]

Why did you play Volcanion? Were you considering any other decks?

I honestly think [card name=”Volcanion-EX” set=”XY Black Star Promos” no=”XY173″ c=”name”][/card] is just a easy deck, [card name=”Volcanion” set=”Steam Siege” no=”25″ c=”name”][/card] can dish out 2HKOs as well as powering up Benched Volcanion-EX and then going in with a Volcanion-EX and OHKO. The high count of [card name=”Professor’s Letter” set=”BREAKthrough” no=”146″ c=”name”][/card] and [card name=”Energy Retrieval” set=”Black and White” no=”92″ c=”name”][/card] make sure I get the OHKOs and Energy in the discard pile. I didn’t really think about other decks, because Volcanion seemed like the easiest to play at the moment.

What was your most exciting game or set?

My top 4 game against [card name=”Sylveon-GX” set=”Guardians Rising” no=”92″ c=”name”][/card] was really close since I was a bit unsure how to play the matchup and he had a higher count of [card name=”Counter Catcher” set=”Crimson Invasion” no=”91″ c=”name”][/card] than I would assume.

Would you make any other changes to your list?

I believe the turn one Power Heater is very valuable, so I think I would add a Volcanion and a [card name=”Float Stone” set=”BREAKthrough” no=”137″ c=”name”][/card] to ensure the attack.

How do you think Forbidden Light affects Volcanion decks in general?

If I recall correctly Forbidden Light doesn’t really help Volcanion at all, so no idea what the set impact will be. I probably would not recomend this deck after Forbidden Light.

Congratulations, Adrian!

Here is the deck list he used to win the tournament:
