(1) 'HeartGold & SoulSilver' Booster Pack Theme Deck, and Binder Images [1/5]

Hunh. I don't know if any of you guys noticed this, but the set list in the image is definitely Platinum! You can make out images of the cards from Platinum in order pretty well. I guess it'll come with the HGSS list, but they don't want to reveal spoilers.

Awww... no Ursaring... aw well, we still have Ampharos and Feraligator... EPIC sleeves, cool binder, can't wait

Guys incredibly noobie questions for a pokemon fan who is regaining interest in everything :p

1. The binder, last time I checked the Arceus binder only had 10 pages so that can only fit 90 cards (assuming you only use the fronts) are all binders like that? I like the idea of specialized binders for each set but there's no point if all the cards cant fit inside : (

2. Never been to a prerelease event >_> So reading the pokemon go site it says $25 and you can get up to 8 packs. Is it really worth it to those who went? can you recommend it? Is it fun? Can I bring someone along (they don't want to play but just hang out with me while I do)

I'm kinda old and don't know if the prerelease event is really that good for me but it does sound interesting.

Can anyone make out on the boost pack package if it says 10 or 11 cards? do you guys think well get the extra energy per pack?

I'd recommend going to a prerelease. They're a good deal for what you're getting and heaps of fun!

Go-Pokemon.com has clearer (although slightly smaller) booster pack images. Yay~ :3

I just realised that as well.... who wants to bet that the Typhlosion deck has got {R} and {L} types in?

I can't wait for this set to come out! The card packages look beautiful (as does that promo poster posted awhile back) and the binder is great too. It doesn't look like it from the picture, but is it like a normal binder where you can add and remove pages? Or like the set book things with a set number of pages?
Hopefully I can fit a prerelease in between school and work and life. T: They're so much fun, and I reeeeaaally want those sleeves.

I'm a bit sad about the cuts, but they'll be in the next set, so we just have to wait a bit longer. I'm more upset about losing the extra energy in the boosters. The new energies are sweet~

i don't know WPM's email adress, but go-pokemon.com has posted an english big scale chico, toto and cynda scan in english!
check it out maybe?

Hopefully they leave in
Professor Elm’s Training Method
Professor Oak’s New Theory
Double Colorless Energy
Pokemon Communicator
Fisherman
Pokemon Collector

Hopefully all of these appear in this set! Especially Pokemon Communicator & Pokemon Collector!

I wonder if Goods will be called Trainer or keep it as Goods?

Yeah I was also wondering why arent they on pokebeach already... I guess that WPM has problems with his 10 year old laptop ^^

Anyways, set looks cool but im really sad they cut off Ursaring...
Booster pack designs are cooler because they look more like a hand drawn. I'm really glad that we will finally have 3 Preconstructed theme decks, different from 2 which started to be normal... (so we get many cool HGSS energies ^^ although, nobody has confirmed that we really are getting those energies :/ )
It's really good that they changed border of cards, bright yellow was starting to be pretty boring and oldish... Also I hope that HGSS won't have misprint cards because (I don't know is it just my store or is it really that way) 30% of my Arceus cards are misprinted.... that really sux

The original JP set is very large, somewhere around 170 cards, I do believe. I guess POP just didn't want too many cards.

There are two things wrong here:

The ACTUAL HGSS set had 142 cards. Throw in a few promos, and we got somewhere around 150. Supreme Victors was around this size, so it wouldn't make since to break it up just because "it was too large". Sets as large as 186 cards have been printed in the past, too, so 170 cards isn't unrealistic.

The real reason why they broke up was to give some cards to go with the two Deck packages that recently came out. Between both of them, there is roughly 55 different cards. Not quite enough for a set, but a bit large to just splash in any ol' set. By taking 25ish cards from HGSS, and adding in random promos, they can create a set around 90 cards. While still a bit small, it is still doable. This event happened in the past with Great Encounters and Majestic Dawn. Japan had a large set (coincidentally just a little bit larger than HGSS) and a Deck Package released at the end of 2007. Rather than creating two sets that have a huge difference in size, they took some cards from DP4, mixed them in with the Deck Package and a few promos, and created Majestic Dawn. The remaining cards of DP4 formed Great Encounters. Most patterns in Pokemon repeat themselves, so it isn't too Farfetch'd to reach this conclusion.

Anyway, I have a theory for what cards will be cut from HGSS. It was originally expected that Blissey and Crobat would be cut, seeing as the both evolved from Kanto Pokemon. (Unlike the other six) While Crobat was cut, Ursaring was cut instead of Blissey. It is interesting to note, however, that both Ursaring and Crobat come from the SoulSilver subset, and the remaining two Primes in that set are starters anyway. An event similar to this happened with Great Encounter and Majestic Dawn. When deciding the cards from Majestic Dawn, do notice that most of the card cut from Great Encounters originated in the Japanese DP4 subset, Night Dash. Using this information, there is a good chance that most, if not all, cards cut from HGSS will come from the SoulSilver subset.

It will be interesting to see if this happens. We'll have to wait until late January to find out. ;]

Anyway, the English version of HGSS has 123 cards, not counting secret rares. 18 or 19 cards will be cut, depending on if they include an Alph Litograph, and if they include it in the actual set count.

By the way, am I seeing things, or can you just barely make out a picture of the new Double Colorless Energy on the binder insert?

Oh yeah, the sleeves are also pretty cool, although I would've liked them better if Ho-oh was gold and Lugia was silver.
