Ruling Evosoda and Rare Candy Combo

Here are the links to the cards in question. I want to go from Zubat to Crobat with Rare Candy and Evosoda in hand at the start of my turn.

Robokayaker,

To answer this question, let's look at what the cards in question do:

Evo Soda
Search your deck for a card that evolves from 1 of your Pokémon and put it onto that Pokémon. (This counts as evolving that Pokémon.) Shuffle your deck afterward. You can't use this card during your first turn or on a Pokémon that was put into play this turn.
So in this case, playing Evo Soda has the effect of searching your deck for a Pokemon that evolves from one of your benched or active Pokemon.

To use your idea as an example, you can use Evo Soda to search for a Golbat, to evolve a Zubat, but you can not find Crobat, as Crobat evolves from Golbat, not Zubat.

Rare Candy
Choose 1 of your Basic Pokémon in play. If you have a Stage 2 card in your hand that evolves from that Pokémon, put that card on the Basic Pokémon. (This counts as evolving that Pokémon.) You can't use this card during your first turn or on a Basic Pokémon that was put into play this turn.
Rare Candy on the other hand lets you evolve from your basic to stage 2, bypassing the need for a stage 1 evolution.

Using the above example, if you have a benched Zubat, then using rare candy would let you play a Crobat on it, bypassing Golbat altogether.

So to answer your question:
If I have a Rare Candy in hand, can I play Evosoda to find a Stage 2 and put it on a Basic?
The answer is No. For two reasons.

Firstly, when you play Evo Soda, you search for a Pokemon that one of your Pokemon evolves from. Unless you have a Stage 1 in play and are looking for the Stage 2, Evo Soda can't find a Stage 2. The important thing to remeber here is that a Stage 1 evolves from a Basic and a Stage 2 evolves from a Stage1.

To reiterate, you need to remember that Crobat evolves from Golbat, not Zubat.

Secondly, when you play Evo Soda, at no time does the card you search for go to your hand. The card found with Evo Soda is played on to the previous evolution of the Pokémon you have found. Rare Candy requires you to have the Stage 2 in hand prior to evolving.

I hope you have found my answer both helpful and informative,

Regards,

Pope.
