And the most popular sp deck is luxchomp correct? I don't know what to put my money into. I'm thinking I should wait for the rotation. How often do rotations occur? every 6 months right?
 
Yeah, Luxchomp's the most popular. Luxchomp is fast, works with the SP engine, and can board control/snipe. Against Gyarados, as dmaster said, is a hard matchup since Lucario GL in play lets Luxray be able to one-shot Gyarados every turn. However, with Gyarados' high damage and insane recovery, Gyarados can one-shot Luxray back.

Rotations occur every September 1st, but the sets that are being rotated out are announced usually in June.
 
Ah I see, september is a while....maybe I should just buy a luxchomp deck xD maybe a new bdif will come out.

Does this gyara deck auto lose to luxchomp though?
 
It does not auto lose. >_> I said it was hard BUT winnable for Gyarados.

also as Dmaster said we will find out in July what the rotation is...most likely. so you will know for sure then what to invest in.
 
Lol my G-Dos beat Luxchomp 9 out of 10 times, I love the article Gliscor, great list, but you may want to say that Special Dark Energy is an option. I'd say drop the Poketurns for them.
 
@ Vulpix Yolk: I'm sorry, but taking out the Poketurns wouldn't be a very good idea. Seeing as you run Junk Arm, poketurns are now re-usable. Also, without Poketurns, you have no way of one-shotting Luxray GL Lv.X without an Expert belt. And you don't want to keep belting up Gyarados, as that is two prizes for Luxray all the time. So keep the poketurns. You don't NEED to run special darks, they are useless after the first turn anyway, provided you get them and can donk.
 
Also, the mirror match is unwinnable if they play Smeargle and you don't. If they can use their Seekers on top of yours, your in some major trouble, since they can heal AND Mesprit lock in the same turn.
 
should mew prime be in this deck? sending 4 magicarps to discard and a gyrados to the lost zone you could hit for 140 (with expert belt) which would know out virtually every playable pokemon. It would even hit for some pokemon's weakness (machamp!!!!)
 
@ umbeosion, but then you loose one of the reasons to even run Gyarados... its high HP.

pretty much anything can KO a mew prime, while Luxray X is the most likely choice to KO a Gyarados. although an Arceus can also do some major damage if you're using Luke. but either way, Mew prime is a bad idea for the deck, especially when you will have to use a psychic energy to put a gyarados in the LZ anyways. one of the main things Gyarados is popular for, it's that it takes no energy to do that kind of damage.

also, it's really hard to beat a gyarados deck if they get a decent hand. =(
 
Is it worth a 2-2 Donphan Prime to combat Luxray Xs? It's just a thought, and not a good one at that.
The two major issues for the deck are
-Luxchomps
-Rotation
...as everyone has mentioned, but I'm thinking why not put in a fighting type that is quick to set up that can combat Luxray?
 
Because it is clunky. I tried it out a few times against Luxchomp and it didn't really help, and it just lowers the consistency of the deck.
 
@mimimidget94 OK, thanks. It helps that someone has actually tried it out, because I have run Donphan Prime in the past but I've yet to play a Luxchomp.
