just wondering how the japanese expert decks leafeon and metagross stand up in our current meta, as well as the new meta with the rule changes.

link to the cards in each deck can be found if you CLICK HERE

i was thinking that metagross one is pretty good as you can spread alot of damage and use jirachi and a uber game ender. also metagross gives you free retreat
also smeargle would be a good substitute for that dunsparce.

i havent been to leagues and stuff enough to know exactly how good these decks stand up.
but if it is a viable deck, i do think i want to paly it.

any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I haven't used those personally nor am I familiar with them. I just went to states a few weeks ago and for the 8 swiss rounds I was there for, nobody used either of those against me, nor did I hear of anyone using them. Pretty much everybody fit into one of two classes: those who go to win (used mainly donk decks) or those who are there to experiment (used lostgar to see how it'd go...I was in this category)

so since they were hardly seen, if not at all, then that means they're overshadowed by the seriousness of donk decks and hype of lost world. which probably means it wouldn't do too well. but hey, it's worth a shot if you have the money (or cards) laying around to build one.

sorry I couldn't be more help

Leafeon + Roserade see's no play because the idea of having to inflict special consitions upon the opponent is too much of shaky process: what if you don't draw into Rainbow energy fast enough to deal that 100 damage what if you're stcuk with just a {G} energy? 50 damage is pretty meh, but with E.Belt attached it isn't THAT bad. It would be alot easier to just cut out the middle man and just focus on using Leafeon lvX a the attacker, have 3 energy on it (isn't very hard considering it's poke-power) and verdant dance for 90 a turn plus with all the support it gets from Leafeon RR, Espeon MD and Umbreon MD it can become a nuisance, but even then, that still doesn't see play due to the over-reliance on the amount of enegry needed on the field to start doing high enough damage to start OHKO'ing common threats.

Metagross UD? nobody plays that thing competitively nor have i ever seen it as a fun deck, the concept is nice (spread and partially snipe) but really, no one would try and use Metagross for it's double leg hammer until very late in the game as it's energy cost is so horrible for an effect which is pretty meh. If it were 50 to 2 benched pokemon then it would be decnet because then it could 2HKO alot of pokemon. You'd be better off using Gallade 4 lvX and maybe Giratina lvX for that job but we know this will never happen.

When the new rule change occurs i doubt it will affect both this decks in any way as Leafeon needs Roserade set-up with that Rainbow energy drop for that high damage and that won't happen till T2 but realistically T3 and for metagross? it focus is on spreading so it won;t be getting any KO' until Mid-late game, so it gains barely anything from the rule change.

In our current meta, both of these concepts are non-existent in the competitive scene. The only one to see play would have probably been Leafeon + Roserade.

wow. thanks guys. that was very thorough.

is a main attacker that needs more than 1 energy to attack not viable at all anymore?

plus, 40 snipe to two pokemon seems pretty good as the point of metagross is not to do knock out, but to enflict enough damage to kill off basics and stage 1 pokemon after you de-evolve them with jirachi.

guess i wont really know until i build a deck and play it

To answer your question: Main attackers that need more energies to attack are still viable, but they are usually played as relatively slow decks with Spiritomb as starter.

Important point though: It still needs to be worth it. Vilegar is played because trainer lock, Shadow Room snipes, Fainting Spell and heavy damage with Poltergeist make it extremely hard to get around. Regigigas is played (OK, it's not, but it's very good) because of Mesprit lock, fast setup with twins, heavy damage and hand disruption. People don't play Metagross because its damage output with Pulse Blast is mediocre at best, and a double 40 snipe is just not enough to spend three turns loading it.
