Latios EX/Altaria/Garbodor

So, here is another idea I had. Most people probably brush off Latios EX as a useable pokemon card mainly because Luster Purge has a bad energy cost and forces you to discard all energy. And the damage it does does not justify the cost for it. But what about Mach Flight?

It does 40 damage, but prevents retreating. If Quad Snorlax is playable because of Block, why not do damage at the same time? Garbodor is necessary for this combo in order to stop Keldeo and Virizion from ruining your fun. Combine this with Virbank, Rock Guard, and Altaria's fight song, and you have a really annoying deck. And Luster Purge could still be used once in a while if you really need it. With Laser and Virbank, it would do 180, which is enough to knockout most things.

So, here is a basic decklist.

3 Latios EX
3 - 3 Swablu (Sing) Altaria
3 - 3 Trubbish (NV) Garbodor (DRX)
2 Emolga DRX

17 Pokemon

4 Juniper
3 N
3 Skyla.
2 Cheren

12 supporters

4 Lasers
2 Virbank
Rock Guard
4 Catchers
2 Ultra Ball
4 Level Ball
4 Float Stone

21 miscellaneous trainers

4 Prism Energy
6 Psychic Energy

10 Energy

I know we'd all love to use Garbodor/Gothitelle, but Garbodor shuts off your own abilities also.

I don't think the idea would be particularly effective anyway because the damage output is rather meh for such a large set up, and most decks run enough switch to take out several Latios EX. Regardless, Garbodor kind of ruins the strategy because you lose out on the extra damage from Altaria.

[private]The thread is fine in competitive play. It's more of an idea then asking for advice on a decklist.[/private]

I actually really like your idea. However, I would have to agree with SheNinja on this one; Altaria is kind of bad to run in this deck. Here's what I'd do:

-3/3 Altaria: For reasons already mentioned, it doesn't work in this deck.

-1/1 Garbodor Line: This is kind of excessive, and you need room for other, more important things.

-2 Level Ball: You really only should run four of these when your entire Pokemon line is made of 90 hp Pokemon, for instance, Reuniclus.

-2 Emolga: Without the need for Altaria, you can still get the 'Brodor out quite easily and you don't have to rely on an attack.

All in all, that's a lot of free space you have there now. Next, I would add in these to fill in those spaces:

+2 Ultra Ball: You can find anything with these, meaning they are really, really good. Not to mention if you find you can't get your Pokemon out quick enough with the search and supporters you already have, then I would definitely go for a full-on line of Ultra Balls.

+4 Recycle: You get your prized Lasers and Rock Guard back with these, and as such, you can use Cheren to get them back instantly. It's a good combo which makes Snorlax really good.

+4 Shadow Triad: Essentially a Junk Arm for your Lasers (and something else which I will talk about later) so you can keep the pump coming. This card is really good in this deck.

+2 Plasma Badge: Alright, you're asking yourself, "Why would I ever run this card?" and here's why: Reusable tool for Garbodor. In case your Float Stone is Scrappered off, you can slap this one on there, and if it is scrapped off, you can simply get it right back with a Shadow Triad. Simple, easy, and downright irritating.

Just some thoughts.

Yeah, I forgot Garbodor blocks Altaria's fight song, heh. And if you had to choose between Altaria or Garbodor, it is better to choose Garbodor because Keldeo is a tech in a lot of decks. I do agree that Team Plasma Badge and Shadow Triad would work well in this deck. With 30 from poison damage and virbank and 40 from mach flight, that's 70 damage per turn which is okay. Although I suppose the disadvantage compared to Snorlax would be that you could not use Max Potion because then you could not Mach Flight anymore, as compared to Block which is an ability.

BUt if you have garchomp without altaria then its damage output just doesn't cut it in today's format

We're not talking about Garchomp. Latios is fine without Garchomp. My friend ran a pretty good Latios/Blastoise list for Battle Roads... Still not sure why he didn't just go with Black Kyurem over Latios...

I feel like Latias-EX would work better.

I also feel like Latios-EX wouldn't be good without Energy acceleration.
