Lostgar, luxchomp...where to go?

I'm a long time yu-gi-oh player. But I'm really interested in the pokemon scene. I have finally come to a point where I have to pick what deck I want to use. I want a deck that wont be irrelevant next format. A deck that is fun to play and doesn't get owned by luxchomp (if I don't play that)

Decks in consideration:

Gyarados SF-- Looks like my type of deck (since I'm new) discard fishes to bring out a bigger fish that attacks over other pokes. Sounds fun, looks cheap, gyara is a boss. Sadly, I know if I took one of these decks to a regionals, I wouldn't top considering all the luxchomps out there.

Luxchmop-- I went on ebay to see if there are any complete decks for sale. There is/was one for sale which was at a BIN of 350 and starting bid of 250. If that's the real price of the deck then wowowow. Yu-gi-oh is cheaper than that. Anyway, I know the deck is a boss. Price and the number of people running this thing are getting in my way. My friend who got me into the game plays that deck, I don't want to copy him...but if the deck is actually more like 100-150 instead of 250-300 then I might...

Lostgar-- playset of gengars is 100 -_- it seems like a boring deck. I like attacking and stuff. But I see a lot of potential in it.

beedrill swarm-- this might be kind of old. But I heard about this. I really don't know much about it. But I like the concept that beedrills just keep flooding the field. swarm of bee's.

So pretty much it all comes down to a few things:

A) I have a donphan prime that I'm going to try and trade off to get all my energy cards etc that are cheap individually but add up. But this is all I have in terms of pokemon.

B) I am new, probably going to just go to locals. I could go to the next regionals if I had a good enough deck.


any help or suggestions would be gnarly.
 
so im guessing you like speed decks. gyrados is a speed deck so are SP's like LuxChomp. there are alot of speed decks. anything that is SP like Lux___ or Blaze___ (blaziken FB x). LostGar IMO isnt fun to play or play against lol. but it is a speed deck also if you use mew prime. other speed decks would be Jumpluff (<---- currently using that one), shuppet, or any donk deck like Donphan prime (hint hint). you can buy energies in mass numbers on ebay.
 
donphan prime decks are viable? Yeah, I'm looking for a speed deck. But I'm pretty sure it wont be luxchomp. I know 4 people that play that. I don't want to be the 5th ha ha. What about the jumpluff deck that you are using, can it compete with luxchomp?

^ LUxchomp is one of the most popular decks in the game right now. donphan is actually a pretty good deck. doing 60 for one energy is really good. and if you can get it ready turn 2 it can out speed most things. jumpluff uses this jumpluff to do 60 (if you keep your bench full) and then +10 for each of your opponents pokemon in play. it relys on rare candies and BTS (broken-time space). BTS speeds every deck up and is a must for stage 2 decks (jumpluff, MagneGatr- magnezone prime Feraligatr prime) sorry if it seems like im babying you i just dont know how familiar you are with the game and the cards lol. i guess you did know some of the main decks
 
I only know these decks because of brief studying over pokemon. I don't really know the mechanics of these decks. I'm mostly looking for a cheap deck that is still good. Donphan deck sounds appealing because I have one all ready. The Gyara SF deck sounds pretty cool. It can do 120 without any energy right? As long as x4 magicarps are in the graveyard. Or is this outdated?
 
Play G-Dos, mine consistently beats Luxchomp, the weakness isn't huge, just play Judges for the Lostgar matchup and make sure to always have you G-Dos Rescue Energied against LuxChomp. Oh also FYI, Beedrill is no longer tournament legal.
 
Are you asking me? Also Donphan is another good option IMO, however the Kingdra/ G-Dos matchup is tough.
 
gyrados is a good deck. and you just for some basics you can only have 4 copies of the same poke in your deck (so it would be 3 magicarps in your discard pile and then the one you use to evolve into Gyrados) its a good fast hitting deck. it can do 110 turn 2 with a E-belt you can read the basics and all that here and if you have any questions you can PM me or a Mod or just post it here
 
What's cheaper betwen g-dos and donphan (or even kingdra) ?

donphan i would think but im not to sure. gyrados is alot more popular than donphan so obviously gyrados would be more pricy but once again im not to sure. donphan is also goes well with machamp prime.
 
Is there any advantages to either deck? I really want to be able to beat my friends luxchomp deck xD

they are both competitive decks though?

^gyrados cripples to LuxChomp due to its weakness to {L}. machamp SF beats all SP's since they are all basics. buuuuut it mostly loses to all other decks
 
so would donphan be the most balanced deck to play? Having a decent shot at everything? Flygon letting it "tag out" freely or something like that.
 
^ it would need BTS for sure. and you wouldnt be switching out at all. as i said machamp prime goes well with it because 1 it damages your bench which machamp prime needs for his attack and 2 machamp prime switches in whenever you want. so if donphan is about to die and you have at least 2 energies on machamp then just send him in with his fighting tag ability. then do 100+ damage. its still more of a rouge deck but its pretty good.
 
Any cost approximations? Sounds like a fun "original" deck. I'll save a dominating deck for later on down the line.I just want fun, which is what the don[han deck with machamp techs sounds like. I'm assuming it does pretty good against luxchomp due to the resistence to lightning.
 
lowest i found on donphan was 1.99 on ebay. machamp is about 3 each. not to bad. at least its not a 70 dollar luxray lol. you would need at least 2 of each. also luxray is weak to machamp and donphan
 
luxray is 70? Donphan is like 8 bucks I thought. Were you looking at the shipping prices? Machamp prime is $10 each. I need 2 of those. 3 donphan primes and 4 phanpy. That's the core of the deck correct? So I'm looking at $30-40 right there. Hopefully the rest of the deck will be cheaper.
 
mine were the lowest prices on the page. im not to up to date on my prices so i wouldnt know for sure. and BTS is about 8 dollars each. you can also trade with people hear too.
 
BTS? At least machamp and donphan are in the same pack xD

what if I get gengar primes out of the packs? Then the gengar deck wouldn't be as expensive to build.
