Ok so Im coing up to a point in my musical career in which I have to stick to one insturment to get good enoughe but its hard to pick what would you pick?

the things I play are:
-Violin/Viola(love to play it very transportable awesome sounds and solos but alot of people play it.)
-Cello (leaning toward it i like the deeper sound but its hard to transport.)
-Piano(basics of all music maybe just keep it on the side to say I can.)
-Flute(Picked it up about 2 years ago and haven't been able to put it down. nice smooth tones,)

so yeah which would you choose?
Keep in mind im not the richest person in the world.
I'm still paying off most of my stuff.

a piano would be the cheapest, seeing how you could get a keyboard, you know? in that case, its also transportable.
a cello may be too complicated to transport, i wouldn't suggest that. and the flute and violin would be very expensive to maintain.
if a keyboard would suffice as a piano for you, i highly recommend it
=)

Violin: A great choice. A large market for it, a modern instrument, many bands need a violin, and it's a profitable occupation.

Cello: I play the base, and know that the bigger instruments are the most coveted in an orchestra. If you are really good, go with this.

Piano: Too many people already out there.

Flute: Who pays money to listen to a flute?

I'm for the violin, personally my favorite instrument. Trust me, from fiddlers in the west to Italians in the east, violins can do a lot.

Piano's my favorite. I've been into it for the past 9 years. It's obviously the easiest to learn how to play, I've tried flute and violin and both were hard for me to get the hang of so I've just sticked with piano : D

FLUTE! Sorry, I'm a former flute player, but I must ask is this for college? What are you planning on doing with this?

to answer yes I am going to college but not for music as my major but I am planning to take the music orchestra courses at Humber college. my major will probable be radiology or social services.

It's always kind of a bummer when you have to narrow down and focus on one thing. Playing multiple instruments is so fun. :[

Let's weight these options individually.

- Violin/Viola: It sounds like you really enjoy playing these, and if you do, why not continue it? There are quite a few careers in playing these instruments professionally, as in Symphony Orchestras, these are the majority of members. The Violin is classic. People enjoy hearing a well-played Violin/Viola. Many artists recording popular music also call on these instruments a lot as well.

- Cello: Don't worry about transportation, there will always be a way to get a Cello from point A to B. Most everything mentioned earlier applies to this instrument. Perhaps there are less Cello players than Violinists? If that's the case, a switch might be good.

- Piano: Don't know about this one. Unless you play the Piano, really, really well, I would say to just kind of keep it off to the side a bit. Piano is the easiest instrument to learn basics and theory on, so maybe just playing it every now and then would be good. It could pay off if you become a music teacher.

- Flute: The Flute is easily my favorite instrument out of these options. It has such a pleasant and sweet sound that blends so well with other instruments. However, I can't stress this enough. Don't pursue Flute professionally if you are low on money. If you are simply looking to play it through college, this changes a bit, but professional quality Flutes easily get as expensive as a brand new car. They are incredibly expensive. The main factor here is gold. Gold produces the most beautiful, round, mellow sound on a Flute imaginable. It's just the best material. Professional flautists will pay tens of thousands of dollars for a Gold-plated Flute. Ouch.

So, seeing your latest post, I would go ahead and say that Violin or Flute would be best. I know I've said a lot about the price of Flutes, but if you won't be playing professionally, it's no problem. You can probably continue using the one you have now if it's a nice model. I feel like playing a wind instrument in the Orchestra is the most rewarding, as there are few of each wind instrument and it's like you're always featured.

Dilemma.

Bass.

Personally I would say piano. Not too sure what you do with music, but there is so much opportunity out there to do things with pianos/keyboards.

Thanks everyone Ive decided that Il go with the Cello as my main and keep piano as a sub.
so yeah thanks to all.

Well, to be honest, you can't have people to make decisions for you. It is up to you to weigh the decisions on which instrument you want to persue. You may choose the Violin, get a scholarship and decide you don't really like playing that instrument anymore. Then play a different instrument and so on.

It is a difficult cohice, but only you can make the final decision. :D

Probably the piano. Seriously but i my mind I wouldn't want to be known as a great violin, or flute player. But as a world class piano player!
