Regigas EX

Captain Oats

I'm worse than you at TCG.

Can somebody please explain to me why people want to tech him into so many decks? He is horribly clunky, has the same hp as other EXs, a low damage output unless he is damaged and has high energy/retreat costs. Fighting types can 1 shot him easily and without damage manipulation on his side he will just go down in 1-2 hits, netting your opponent an easy 2 prizes, and that stall/wall you just threw up ended up hurting you more than anything.

I just don't see why people want to treat him as a 1 size fits all tech.

Because it attacks for colorless energy, hits 80 for {C}{C}{C} (read DCE) and can tank a hit and return a sure KO on things like Typhlosion?

Also eviolited gigas does not get 1 hit by terrakion.

So does Tornadus, but he doesn't have a 2 prize penalty attached with him. And if he takes that 20 recoil before he can get an eviolite on him then Terrakion ohkos him regardless. Plus, people normally don't run more than 2, maybe 3 eviolites, so you won't always have one.

He can tank but lots of things can tank, why is he so great simply because he is colorless.

Lightning is more prominent than fighting, meaning regigigas lasts longer than tornadus (and that +70HP helps as well)

Regigigas also has an outrage-style attack, with higher base power and an easier charging move for it.

I know what the card can do, but I still don't see why people want it in anything other than the Truth. 80 for {C}{C}{C} is decent, yes, and his outrage attack is nice, but that's 1-2 DCEs, which takes away greatly from Mewtwo in MTC and Zekrom/Reshiram in their decks. It's basically a guaranteed 2 free prizes for your opponent unless you can heal him (which ruins his second attack which is the whole point of even playing him) that steals a pretty limited resource from your primary attacker all for 1, maybe 2 prizes yourself, or a chance to stall for a turn.

Also Terrakion is teched in just about everything because of the large amount of lightning so you see fighting almost just as much.

It has average to situational attacks with an extreme retreat cost and comes with a 2 prize liability. Why is his high hp and colorless typing overshadowing that mediocrity?

No, the thing is it provides a source of hard-hitting that is not present otherwise in MTC.
There's nothing in the deck that can tank a hit and then OHKO enemy threats with 140 HP.
Also, Terrakion is just a tech, while Lightning is a whole deck. Tornadus dies to lightning.

Imagine in a deck with energy accel like thsoe in MTC or ZPST. A 180HP beast as your starter. DCE plus any other energy. T1 or T2 80 with minimum 70 next turn with a chance for higher output if damaged. The early pressure is definitely great, and makes your opponent force a OHKO which can't always be done early game. It is better than Tornadus as its not weak to the heavy Lightning meta, uses the same energy cost for the early 80, and can tank more hits from the meta. And as already said, Eviolite makes it tank even a Terrakion Land Crush or Landorus Gaia Hammer with Pluspower, threatening the return OHKO next turn. Coupled with a SSU and you have yourself somewhat a monster early game.

TL;DR
Splashable tank with efficient costs. Semi-type advantage to meta. High early game pressure.

Just my take on it.
