Okay, so this is a huge Cities with over 100 people. I got there a bit early and bought some badly-needed sleeves and dice to use, and get set sleeving my MagneGatr and getting it checked. The TD's cool, and lets me write down prizes after Azelf's Time Walk... that's about it, and the tourney's underway with 32 Seniors, so 5 rounds:
Round 1
Against Donphan, and I get an awful start (lone Spiritomb and going first, with nothing to get a basic at all). His first turn, he gets Phanpy out starting, plays Collector, gets a Uxie, plays that for Set Up and attaches fighting to Phanpy and plays BTS. Evolves to Donphan and Earthquakes for the T1 donk. Later I look back at my deck and find out that I wouldn't have been able to get a basic until turn 10... not the best start.
0-1
Round 2
Against Umbreon+Machamp, which is pretty much an auto-loss for me, but I play it out with an Azelf start. My opponent gets the Umbreon out and Moonlight Fangs for 3 prizes before I get Croconaw out to attack it. I get the KO on the Umbreon, but she gets a revenge kill on my Croconaw, which had Rescue energy attached to it. I get a few KOs with Magnezone until it's 3-2 prizes, but have to set up my Feraligatr to do so. She gets another Umbreon out, I can't get a Croconaw because one Totodile was prized and I started with Azelf. I scoop next turn.
0-2
Round 3
I start with Spiritomb and Magnemite and go first. My opponent says he's running a "Grass and Psychic deck." I get T2 fully-loaded Magnezone and Feraligatr, and the game ends quickly from there.
1-2
Round 4
Against a pretty much crap SP toolbox. I start with Spiritomb and Magnemite and get out 2 Magnezone and 1 Feraligatr in a couple of turns while my opponent keeps using Honcho's Command to get Trainers he can't use. I retreat to Magnezone and set up a 3rd Magnezone on bench, and just blow through the entire deck, winning 6 prizes to 0 and doing 500 damage the last turn.
2-2
Round 5
This time I'm against a competent player who's using Gyarados. I start with Spiritomb, Magnemite, and Collector and go 2nd. I get everything set up really quickly (Collector for Uxie, Azelf, Totodile and then Darkness Grace, so fully loaded Maggy by T2) and my opponent can only get 2 Magikarps discarded. I let him KO the Spiritomb and put up the Magnezone while I get another set up. I keep running through Gyaras, Dialga Gs, and Sableyes before he gets a KO, but I just put up a 2nd Maggy and win the game from there.
3-2
Overall, it was a really fun tourney and MagneGatr played well. I wish I had had better matchups for the first few games, but oh well.
Props:
Meeting glaceon, Shadowwiidragon, and Gliscor
Going 3-2 in my first Cities
Pulling DCE, Collector, Communication, and top half of Lugia Legend in a single pack
Finally getting some dice
Beating glaceon by 1 spot and thefleeee by 7
Slops:
Lone Spiritomb start 1st game
Playing against the only Umbreon deck there
Losing my first two games and getting awful resistance
