Ok... why has this thread turned into a discussion of "Is KaM a n00b?"

Back to the subject at hand, I have a new point of view. I tink we're being too hard on te n00bs. Most of the spammer's are just little kids, probably 8-12. Which, if you're new, is still kida young. I mean, come one. What 24+ year old has been spamming? (I'm sure there have been "occassions", but they know to read the rules). IMO, we should let them be n00bs for just a while, maybe a week or so. Let them have their fun, then slap them with a one-way-ticket to the Forum Rules and the Newbie Guide. That way, they'll learn that if you do omething bad in an excessive amount, then you'll get in trouble, thus making them NOT want to do it again. Get my point?

Also, no offense taken Dr. Ooler :F :)

Cute-mew's new evolution theory (Even better than Darwin's):

Part 1) Most people new to everything Internet-related and who join PB are the obvious newbies, but that doesn't make them noobs. A lot of new members do their very best to un-noob themselves, and often go staight to part 3, whilst a bigger part seems to not realise they're the noobs being talked about all the time, and convince themselves they are the 1st kind.

Part 2) This is a very defining stage in the life of a noob, if the noob realised their noobiness in the 1st part, they often turn into a regular member. If they don't, however, they have 2 ways to go, either they are so convinced with their perfectness, they actually start acting like veterans, and, they sometimes even start demanding authority. This in the form of mini-modding and over-reporting of even the smallest flaws in post, whilst their post are usually worse. Take this either as an insult, or as a wake-up slap, but LV and D&P are like this.
The other way to go is the U turn, once they get out of the noob circle, they start mingling with the authority-demanders, follow their guidelines, and become noobs again. Nowadays, the authority-demanders influence others through clans, clubs, teams and the likes, as well as the mini-modding they do.

Part 3) A part few members actually reach, veteran members, these members tend to not post as regularly as they used to, but their posts are often long, intelligent, and with correct spelling and grammar, not always as serious, but never spammy or against the rules. Older members with some experience on the Internet often join in this stage, but that doesn't happen a lot, however.

Now, try to find yourself in this text, but, if you're convinced you're in 3, the odds are that you're actually in part 2.

Oh, BTW, yes, D&P, you can back after some serious ban and didn't better at all, or even tried, I guess that qualifies as noobiness.

^Darwin's 'Evolution Theory' was bad, in my opinion. At KaM: lol, that sounded very funny (the first sentence).

Ontopic: Again, not all newbie's are n00bs. Some are new to this whole happening, some just aren't English, and some are just...Lazy, so after a while, they either became "members", or n00bs. You just have to realise that not all newbie's are n00bs. That makes the forum alot more n00bish free. Note: n00bish free, not spam free

There was a thread like this sometime over the summer. "Inactivity and the source of it", I think it was called.

Yes, some of the people here are just young, and are just joining a forum for the first time. They just might not know that talking like, "hi evry1 I'm new", and posting in the wrong places is being n00bish. Or, they might be older, and they might not know it.

You know, it is very popular these days to talk like that, n00b talk, as we would call it. Many teens with text messaging on their cell phones and the such know only the language of the n00b. "hi (name) I go to movie tonit r u going to b there?" "idk, I hope". They might be migrating over from that, to something like this, a forum, where it's recommended, even enforced to use good grammar, spelling etc.

And, of course, some of them are just n00bs. :/

I'm glad someone mentioned Ketchup and Mustard. Yes, he was a n00b when he joined. Look at him now. He saw that members who used good grammar, spelling, etc., and who made the effort to post intelligent stuff were respected much more than others. So, now he's not a n00b anymore. He's a good member, and posts good stuff. A lot of people have noticed this in him, and I like it. He is wise: he realizes his own mistakes and errors, as well as others, and learns from them.

As we all know, though, that not all the people here are like that. :/

Anyways, in my opinion, we should make Pokebeach open to n00bs. Someone somewhere mentioned something about having a quiz in order to have people join. I disagree with that, as Pokebeach seems to be somewhat of a n00b-training-ground-place. If there aren't people in forums like these who are willing to help out the new people, then where will they ever learn? If one of these n00bs went to some place like....say, Smogon, and said their n00bish things, then, ZAP! BAM! They'd be gone in an instant. Get where I'm coming from?

Okay, no mo' bashing.

I'll propose a fix-all theory to this problem tonight.

Do I now dare to say I belong to group 3 or will I get instantly n00bified?

I have reported posts/threads that I feel deserved it. But I've only reported like 30 times during my whole stay on this forum. At some point I just stopped doing it for a really long time when I saw the shear amount of reportable posts on this forum. I just couldn't bother :/ Plus I thought I'd make a fool out of myself by reporting everything.

It's really hard for me to be on this forum sometimes because I run a forum myself (with an iron grip and I see the results). That is also why I tend to be annoying and demand a change in the way of running this forum. We have a system of "warning-> warning-> ban for a sertan time. If the spamming continues, the same thing occurs and the ban lasts longer. Total idiots get a "perma ban" instantly. Not saying that the same thing should be applied to this forum. The forum I run just happens to be an official Nintendo licensed forum. We don't have much room for mistakes.

N00bs are a necessity for the future of any foorum. I just wish that molding them into decent users wouldn't take years and years of setting a good example cause the reality is that most of them couldn't care less about how good everyone else's posts are. It literally takes an intervention where they are told in their face "This will not do. You will get banned if you continue doing that." Without it, most n00bs (not all) just continue to keep up their bad habits. They CAN change without intervention, but that'll take a LONG time. In that time there will be a load of new n00bs around to be dealt with also.

I hope that didn't sound too preachy and stuff :/ Just more of my own thoughts about running a forum and punishing n00bs.

The posts in this thread all seemed intelligent and grammar-and-spelling-error-free. Talk like this all the time.

The only thing we can do is to remain intelligent and bring in other intelligent people. I know that people are deterred from coming here because of the amount of n00bs, but the only real solution is to keep posting intelligent posts to set an example for the n00bs. The more intelligent people that are brought in, the better this place can be, and the better the n00bs will start to behave.

But I do wish I had a magic wand, like bacon said. :(

Bolded: Grammar error. We are on a forum. We don't talk here, we post.

Anyway, the thing mingling in my mind here is people make mistakes. Humanity is not complete w/out mistakes.

n00bs perfect themselves by looking at the veteran members. But some old members like *you know who* tends to use chat-speak and l33t. That is my concern. I even put something in my sig to prove my concern.

This mod is unfriendly.

Lol, I think I'm in Part 3 as well as a number of us. =p Obviously, there is stilla part that cute-mew forgot, which is the part where they deny. =] To me, the steps are Realise -> Follow Examples -> Apply it to their posts, etc. -> Saying something wrong -> PM from someone or a post -> Denial -> Realise (again) -> change -> Not noob. =]

Actually, some Veterans like Flygon, Andyman, Junichi, Boracay_Jason, Ghost Pokemon Master, Black Rayquaza, Sam von Noobenschtein, SubZero, bass_forte, Blastoise King, Absol, Pokefan4000, Pok3m@niac(Did I spell that right?) And many more have vanished from the surface of the beach.

I got replaced didn't I?I saw a Ghost Poke Master around here.

LOL, I noticed that XD. Actually, I miss your old Duskullness. Back on topic, Absol still goes on, as well as BK, Black rayquaza and svN, and I've seen Boracay_Jason around a bit. No offense, but Blastoise King's grammar and spelling in posts hasn't really improved much(He still goes on too).

Some people need to think of their own names =/

Lol, too true....
This post totally breaks WPM's "The posts in this thread all seemed intelligent and grammar-and-spelling-error-free. Talk like this all the time." royal decree. And don't you think that KaM is posting really, really long, in every single post? I think he's trying to prove something. :/ But I guess that's a good thing isn't it?
